Hi, please could someone help with this unusual behaviour, see below for details.

What version of OsmAnd are you using, on what device?

Samsung s5 SM-G900F android 6.0.1
Osmand 3.4.4

Do you use the offline maps offered within the OsmAnd app for download, or online (tile / raster) maps?
Offline

If you use offline maps, tell us the exact name of the map file where the routing issue occurs, and its edition date.
Englande South East 1st July 2019

Tell us whether you have used OsmAnd's in-app offline routing, or any online routing provider like YOURS, OpenRouteService or OSRM.
Inapp

What routing profile is choosen in OsmAnd app (car, bike or pedestrian)?
Car

Please specify as exactly as possible the start and end point of your route. If possible, tell us city name and street name for each. Also a Permalink from openstreetmap.org can be helpful.
Start: Lewes
Destination: Brighton

Tell us your expected routing, and how OsmAnd routes.

Route from Lewes, to Brighton
OSMand routes from current location to Brighton

Hi Ben
Maybe I missed the point, but can you clarify your question?
Is the problem that you are not currently at Lewes, and you would like Osmand to calculate a route from Lewes, but it is calculating a route from your current location (not Lewes)?

Hi Paul, yes, that's exactly right. I want to create a route from Lewes to Brighton centre. I'm not currently at the starting position of the route (Lewes). OSMand creates a route with the starting position being my current location, based on GPS (the suburbs of Brighton), and the destination being Brighton centre.

When you are setting up a route, Osmand seems to default to begin from
"my position" [1] as the starting point.

But you should be able to touch the area of the route setup screen
outlined in the black box in the attached image to set an alternate
starting point other than "My Position". In your instance, you'd want
to set Lewes as that starting point. [2]

[1] This default seems a reasonable choice to make for a routing app.
Most people tend to use a routing app for "I am here, how do I get to
*there*" uses. In that case, the "I am here" part exactly corresponds
to starting from "My Position".

[2] This function is also useful for setting up a route indoors where
the GPS signal is too weakened to accurately receive. "My Position"
depends upon GPS supplying a "position", explicitly setting a "From"
allows a route to be setup without needing any GPS reception at the
time of setup.

Hi Ben.
OK.  Your aim is now clearly understood.
1) See how you get on with Xavier's technique. - It should work OK.
and/or
2) Try turning off your device's GPS.  (Presumably you can do this in your device "Settings".  Maybe you can simply swipe down the home screen to gain immediate access to the "Location" icon.).
3) After you have success with the route being calculated, you can save it for future use, if you like. - Ask again about this feature if you need to.
OK?

(BTW - I know the Lewis/Brighton area fairly well).

This video may help: https://youtu.be/UXpvjE1vmbI

Alternatively, you can long press your starting location, then Actions > Directions from.  You'll then be prompted to select a destination.

thanks Bart, "driections from" button worked.

That seems to be a bug to me. I often plan trips in advance. I don't think it should be so unintuitive to do this.

Actually, I've gone back to OSMand since posting that and the route has been redrawn from my current location. Tried again and OSMand routed from my current location, not Lewes.any ideas?

Are you pressing "Start"?  That starts navigation from you your current position.

That's exactly what I'm doing. It takes a while for the route to load and I was pressing start, thinking that's was required. Need to give my old phone a bit more time to do stuff. Thanks Bart.

Hi Ben.
Bart Eisenberg's videos are very good - He has made several covering a range of OsmAnd techniques.  Have a look at them.
Anyway, With his, and the other help, looks like you've got that problem under control.
Case closed?
