Does OSMAN support Speed Cameras ?
I have see some articles about SOME cameras not appearing.
However, I have used OSMAN ( Free Version ) for some time but NEVER seen an option for Speed Cameras in POIs and I can see no Speed Camera icons on any maps - at least in the UK.
I do see references to Speed Cameras in Settings ( e.g. in Alerts & Announce ) but since there are are no refs to them in POI where are they and how do you activate them ?
I see nothing in the stored files which suggest they could be speed camera files.

Very puzzled !!!

Try to find a position on osm.org where there is definitively a speed camera in the OSM data.
You can make use of http://frink.bplaced.de/blitzer/ to find them on an OSM map.

Then make sure to have that feature turned on in Osmand's settings.

Success?

Thanks Stephan

That has at least made me aware of the osm.org and  http://frink.bplaced.de/blitzer/ maps

However, none of the speed cameras in my vicinity are shown on the osm.org map.
Some are shown on the http://frink.bplaced.de/blitzer/ map but not all of them.

However, NONE OF THEM AT ALL are shown on the OSMAND Map on my mobile device. In fact I have never seen a Speed Camera on my OSMAND UK map.
I can see no way to turn them on either in Settings or Configure map.
As I said in my 1st post, I do see a reference in Navigation Settings to speed cameras in “Show Alerts” & “Announce”  and both these are ticked but this achieves nothing.

Are the Speed Cameras incorporated in the Country Maps or are there separate files for them ?
Certainly, the POI list I see does not have have a Speed Cameras item.

Maybe if Speed Cameras are incorporated in the Maps, the UK OSMAND Map just does not have them.
Maybe I do not see them because I am using the Offline Map.

My current version, just downloaded, is 2.4.6 but it has been the same with earlier versions.

If I do not see any Speed Cameras on the maps it is not surprising that i do not get any warnings about them

All rather puzzling !

P.S.
I am just in the process of trying another App, “Sygic GPS Navigation & Maps” and that certainly shows all the local Speed Cameras
That too  is an Offline Mapping facility but works OK

Hi,

maybe a misunderstanding here? You wont "see" them in the Osmand Map ... but if they are "properly" documented in OSM, then Osmand will warn you, once you're coming close.

Works here ..

But I am able to see icons for speed cameras on Osmand's map screen, also in map style "Osmand" and UniRS" there!!!

Why you cannot?

At least, http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Maps.Me app can display the normally on the map,

> You wont "see" them in the Osmand Map ...

Indeed you can make them visible by creating a search pattern.
Use Transportation, then check speed camera and some of reinforcement...

@Peter, Stephan75 you're both right .. as a POI you can make them visible .. but they are not configurable as a map element like Buildings or housenumbers, etc.

Very Confusing !
How do you make them visible as POIs - I see nothing listed in POIs which refer to Speed Cameras. Is this a POI file which needs to be added ?
Peter says "Use Transportation". Where is "Transportation" listed ? under which heading ?
I see Transport under the heading Show but no mention of Speed Cameras in that.
Please explain

Hi Again

Now figured out what Peter B  meant by "creating a search pattern" so for other "dummies" like myself, here is what to do - in the current version.

Simply use the normal Search facility ( normally used for places ) and search for "Speed cameras".
You should then see "Speed Cameras" at the top of the list with "Transportation" beneath. Tapping this brings up SHOW SPEED CAMERAS ON THE MAP. Tap this and there they are.
Going to the BRH Menu and selecting Configure Map, POI ( under Show ) shows Speed Cameras. However, if I go into the POI list I SOMETIMES see Speed Cameras listed as an item which can be turned on or off but sometimes it is not listed ( ? ).
In any case the Speed Cameras item is lost if it is deselected and the App shut down so you need to start off with the Search again next time.

All this is somewhat academic however, as the speed cameras shown, at least in my area ( in the UK ), is only a small selection of all the speed cameras i.e. those shown in  http://frink.bplaced.de/blitzer/

What is needed to make the App really useful in this respect is the facility to easily import a file with a comprehensive list of cameras.

Creating a search pattern with speed camera:
If you don't have english display language, first change to it, it helps to follow the instructions.

Tap menu (3 bars), then search, then poi.
Then tap next menu (the 3 dots) right of input line.
Tap custom filter.
Now you see the first selection level.
Then scroll until transportation
Tap on the text, NOT the check box!
Now you see the second selection level.
Then scroll for speed camera and check the check box.
Then close window.
Now you see check box of transportation is checked and you see "(1)" behind the text,  which indicates one item is checked on this level.
Now tap on filter (upper right corner)
You see the selection, which is a list of POIs (if there exist any ! )
To save this as a custom filter (I called it a search pattern) tap on the star on upper right corner, give it a name and tap yes to save.

On both levels you can check multiple items to create search pattern like that.

Do some experimentation and enjoy.

Thanks very much Peter. That opens up for me new aspects of OSMAND.
I was simply using the Search icon ( magnifying glass ) on the map rather than the Search in the Menu ( as you describe ), which provides more options.
Do you not think that the Search icon on the map should link to the same options, rather than just to  History & Catagories

However, a more comprehensive database of speed cameras is still very much to be desired if one is to rely on this App to avoid missing them.

Please be aware that the "Search icon ( magnifying glass ) on the map" is an option which is "under construction".
But I fully agree that it should link to that other page, there is no need to have totally different processing.
