trip recording stops when I put screen off

Hello,

Since the latest update from OSMAND and  Android 8  trip recording stops after a while when I put screen off.

I have tryed  all settings to keep OSMAND alive, but all failed.

I installed an other gpsrecorder https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mendhak.gpslogger&hl=nl and this app works fine: gps fix keeps still alive when screen is off.

It seems that OSMAND is set to sleep by Android 8. My device is Huawei P100 pro

I hope someone can help me.

there 2 things you can do

1. unlock "developers option" into the Android setting. Inside this hidden menu find the "doze mode" option. You have to disable it (OFF).
"doze mode" is up to 8.0.0 version. Into my device 8.1.0 this option is not any more valid.

or

2. Android settings /battery / battery optimization
find the osmand app and set to "don't optimize"

after this, please reboot your device. Just to make you sure

My Android is 8.0.0 

Option 1:  I set developers option true, but there I find no "doze mode"

Option 2:  I set osmand to  "don't optimize" , but it does not have effect to osmand.

I had the same problems into my device using android 7.1.1 - 8.0.0 - 8.1.0, with my navigation applications, running with screen off (save the battery) to do track recording. With the first two android version I had to disable doze mode. With latest android I disable battery optimization.

Also with your issue I believe it has to do with one android setting. Not with application settings. When android count 5 minutes with screen off, it freeze or sometimes close the running applications.

With my device, Huawei mate 9, android 8.0, I see the same problem. No matter what I try, e.g. switching power safe mode off, or other efforts, tracking interrupts after some minutes of screen off.

I had another App, outdooractive.com, track my way simultaneously with Osmand. This app doesn´t interrupt. it tracks may way over hours, without any problem. I think it is a problem in Osmand.

Today I make one more test, to be 100% sure before say anything

Into my device 1+ 5T (A5010) with Android 8.1.0 (no root) and OsmAnd+ 3.0.4
I make a track recording of 4:53 hours with screen OFF. There was no destination point. The app was into free walking mode.

As I have told before, into the android setting for this app
battery optimization : "don't optimize"

I dropped my issue at the supportteam of OSMAND and they give me an answer today:

        "Our developers are aware of this situation and I hope they will provide a fix in a coming 3.1 release."

hopefully  coming soon.

Hi, I use 3.0.4 on Huawei Mate 9 with Android 8.0.0 and also option 2 have no effect on my device.

I have reset my Handy and test the OSMAND 2.7.5 free. This works. Bud after install the 3.0.4+ version the error comes back.

i have found the follow solution for another navigation app. Maybe it can work for OsmAnd app also

Huawei/Honor devices, with problems when the screen is off (the app stops recording), you have to enable configuration-->sensors-->GPS-->FUSED LOCATION PROVIDER

I use Huawei Mate 9 with Android 8.0.0.
I test any OsmAnd+ and also OsmAnd Free versions 2.6.5 ... 3.0.4, and found out, that Nothing works after Update from Android 7 to 8. I contact the OsmAnd Team. They sayed "This error is known and they work on this."

I have contacted also Huawei, and they know also this error and work also on an Update.

Today comes a Update, but its only a Android security update☹️

Now I test the nightly version dayly and hope every day of a working version. 😒

You can also look the follow setting, but it don't work at my phone.

In German: Einstellungen - Apps & Benachrichtigungen - Apps - (Symbol) Einstellungen - Spezieller Zugriff - Akkuoptimierungen ignorieren - (Filter auf Alle Apps) OsmAnd auf Zulassen Einstellen!

the latest information shows the source of the problems. This is " Huawei's battery software optimization"
Not only every navigation app, but also all the other app like video player app VLC, stop working when we use Huawei smartphone and the screen is turned off, maybe for battery save reason.

outdooractive.com works reliably on my hawei mate 9. I use it parallel when hiking or biking. Navigation with osmand, trip recording with outdooractive.com. it provides good data even in altitudes.
