I have a Huawei Y330 with Android 4.2.2.

Other tracking apps like OruxMaps work without a problem, but OsmAnd (I bought the premium version) is losing the GPS signal after locking the screen or going to home screen.

GPX recording is enabled for 1s and the signal is set to CONTINUOS. The app is on the whitelist of the phone's power save (power save is disabled abnyway) I saw other people complaining about this, but the topics were old, so I'm opening a new one.
I'm actually on a bike tour right now, and some of the stretches are a big too long to support with the screen always on to have instructions. Anything that could be done?

Try osm tracker, just for test how/whether he works.
It might be interesting.

If you do not record a gpx-track this settings have no effect. You have to record a gpx-track or use the routing.

Are you using the "turn screen on" navigation option?

Using osm tracks now. Gps signal still drops, but sometimes osmand will announce driving directions. Not very consistent

Osmtrack also loses connection.. My track is all messed up with huge straight line jumps. I repeat that recording works flawlessly with oruxmaps and the strava app

Are you using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2 I am not sure, but it seems to me, this app make the gps-fix sometimes impossible.

No, I'm not using any other GPS related app on my phone.

Recently I tried some lightweight GPX trackers in conjuction with OsmAnd, but I still hear the message "Gps signal lost". Again: this does not happen with other tracking/gps apps like OruxMaps, Strava or any of the lightweight GPX trackers I've tried.

The latest version not only doesn't fix this, it doesn't calculate cycle routes either.

Just wanted to update on this. It still doesn't work.
My phone is now rooted and I disabled some gps that was hidden (YGPS), but nothing changed -- GPS signal is strong, but goes away after 30sec-1min of screen lock.

Yes, I agree with you. Earlier versions of OSM, ealier than 1.9.5, didn't have this problem of losing GPS lock. Its annoying and I never found a solution for it. Maybe it can be attributed to the numerous system apps that get updated automatically on my phone.

More than likely though, OSM is the problem. Google navigation doesn't have this problem.

How is it possible that only 2 people have this issue? How can I further debug this to understand if my phone is at fault?

For me it's more important to have the turn-by-turn directions working with a locked screen, to save battery, then to record a gpx.
Otheriwse I would simply use Oruxmaps which only lacks turn-by-turn directions, but doesn't lose gps signal.

Try setting the location mode to "Device Only" (i.e. GPS) rather than "High Accuracy".
Do not use WiFi and other Network for location mode.
This worked for me.

Newer Android versions also often need the affected application to be excluded from power management optimization.
( E.g. Stamina exception for Sony devices )

This is frequently adviced for other GPS applications like LocusMap.

Check the permissions you have granted for the Osmand app. Later versions of Android have multiple Location permissions options. You want to grant Osmand permission to access Location ALWAYS not just while the app is active.

First of all: update your OsmAnd!
1.9.4 and 2.0 are ancient. We are at 3.6.3
Although Martin is right about "later versions of android", this will not apply to your 4.2.2 Android version.

Also: please read the documentation.
https://osmand.net/features/trip-recording-plugin (specially the troubleshooting)
