GPX track with alternative segments

I have a motorcycle GPX track which is laid out like this: First there is a main track, then there are multiple alternative segments that denote more difficult sections or easier sections. The alternative sections always start and end on the main track by definition. This is standard way of doing tracks for offroad riding. Now Osmand make a royal mess of it when trying to navigate (see attached image). It appears that it tries to string together all segments including alternatives. Question is what can I do to make Osmand understand that it does not have to link "alternative" segments into one continuous route?

Secondary issue I found is Osmand takes first track segment (by order in GPX file) to denote the start of the track and end of the last segment as end. Are there ways to override the simple order of segments in the track? Here in my case the finish somehow is also wrong.

I'm unable to view the image so forgive any misunderstanding.  Are you saying that the main track and the alternative segments are all one GPX track?

Yes they are all segments of a single GPX track.  Here is a shareable link maybe you could see it that way https://drive.google.com/file/d/1narkG9SswCbZinIYslTnmVraBQ7qd0Nd/view?usp=sharing

OsmAnd can show distance, time and other stats by segment.  But as far as I know, it doesn't use them for navigation.  So I think what you're seeing is what you suspect: it's stringing together all the segments--which would only work if you were airborne.

Workaround?  I'm not sure.  Would it be possible to specify in a GPX the main track as a continuous route?  And the alternative sections as one or more other GPXs?  You should then be able to navigate the main track and have visual references for the others. Of course, OsmAnd would keep pointing you back to the main track if you diverged from it.

Or what about using using the GPX you've got but not routing along it. You wouldn't get turn-by-turn directions, but you'd still have a visual reference for what track you're on. With separate GPXs, you could color-code them.

Bart, I ended up splitting the track into three standalone tracks main, easy and hard. Now each can be navigated. I feel like a surgeon after a big surgery. Like dr Frankenstein :)
In the process I cleaned it from garmin's custom xml tags crap and added elevation.

Sounds like a reasonable approach--I hope it works out.

Are you converting the track to a route?  If so, that is the problem.  View the track as a track and it provides nothing other than an overlay of the track on the map.  You can join it at any point and exit at any point.  It will not give you turn by turn directions but instead, you just keep yourself (noted with a moving icon) on the shown track.  Turn by turn directions would be a horrible distractions in the woods.

Vic,

I broke a track with branches into multiple regular branchless tracks. No routes were involved. The reasons I prefer being able to navigate are:
- it shows me distance to the next turn
- it shows me distance/time to finish/marker point
- it navigates me back to the track when I lose my way (happens all the time in the woods)

I admit these are all fairly secondary reasons. I have tried to simply display the track and stay in map browse mode (no navigation). I tried that really briefly a couple times and my experience was very inconsistent. Most of the time my position would slide out of the visible map as I move and that was it. However, once it did what you 'd expect - panning the map I was moving along. I still do not know what was the trigger for correct behavior. Feel free to let me know.

I don't recall the setting but there is one or a button on the screen that causes your position to be centered and the map to pan with you.  I hope someone else will tell you what it is.  I think it is just a button on the screen but not sure.
