Hi Frans,

That is nice to see we have a lot of fans. We are just looking into the possibility to set up our own mapnik tile server, or to join in to a content delivery network (CDN).
We also have plans to distribute vector data in osmand format and tile packages in site format, for use off-line.
Nice to see you have setup your own servers. Can you tell something more bout it? You are from Indonesia, right? How did you manage to set up such a server, it needs serious hardware! Where do you know Osmand from? And how do like to work together? Osmand uses more and more bandwidth now, and OSM servers are complaining about it, so it is great idea if osmand could use your tile servers too, and maybe a better idea if those servers work together! Besides that, the vector maps we create are small, but request a lot of bandwidth because of their increasing popularity. How do you want to join the osmand initiative? We are curious about how we can join together!

You are from Indonesia, right?

yes from indonesia, indonesia internet, is unique, we have our own
internet exchange, so anyone here, faster to access server inside
country, and our mirror server called it osmosa.net

How did you manage to set up such a

yes, we invest serious server, and with a biz model to help ISP
sponsor us, and sell their bandwidth to school, so anys tudent can
access to server faster, 1 - 2 hop.

i like OSMAnd, and want the server point to our server, just it.

to make we can access the osmosa, and also help openstreetmap.org from load.

tell me anythin that we need to setup in osmosa.net, so we can make
osmoand run smoothly

our model, because osm.org is not support distrubute contribution, we
decide all contribution will direct to osm.org including to save POI

and the osmand user for osmosa server, must wait we finish replicate
-> we are still learning how to replicate the planet in effective way

we in meruvian, has setup android team, :) we success compile osmand,
but we test, every time server shut down, the osmand still run well :)

that is our progress

www.facebook.com/meruvian -> our work and we develop team in
highschool to use osmand.

we also try to make osmtrack run well in our server

Hello Frans,

when you want to offer some map files for download that users can load
in OsmAnd, the best way would be do take an extract of the raw OSM
server for indonesia (or any country you want) and to convert that
data into obf format for offline use in OsmAnd.

See OsmandMapcreator which you can run on any desktop PC or server
with a JavaRE.

Is this your aim about OsmAnd and your local activities and your own
server?
Give more Details if not ...

Greets, Stephan

Hi!

If I understand it, Frans wants the OsmAnd to go to his server completely,
so that the people in his country don't use global internet but only internet in
the country. This should involve map tiles, downloading maps, osm services
that Frans is able to set up.

Currently this will probably need a special version of OsmAnd, which Frans
could probably build himself, or we can make OsmAnd even more customizable,
so that also thing like osm server, download server, etc can be customized. Or,
there can be some mirror server info already in OsmAnd and depending on the location,
or, setting, or language, or whatever, this could be used.

Any ideas in this direction would be welcome.

OsmAnd would probably only profit from mirrored services like Frans set up. So that
the download is distributed.

Regards,
Pavol

the idea of osmosa.net

1. reduce openstreetmap server , may be only for contribution or global user
2. use the power of indonesian internet exchange, which for indonesian
here, faster access under IIX rather global internet
3. for education, the server manage by students all over indonesia, so
they can manage real server .

take a look the people that manage it www.facebook.com/meruvian
