So I want to import my starred places from google maps into Osmand+ but keep having issues.  I downloaded them into .json using google takeout, then converted it to .gpx using mygeodata.  I initially renamed it favourites.gpx and put it in the osmand folder, but all that showed up was the last point in the file and it didn't even have a name.  I deleted it and tried emailing myself the file and opening with osmand+.  I chose the option to save it to favorites, and nothing imported.  I tried different conversion sites, resaving it with random timestamps using gpx editor, restarting osmand, nothing worked.  When I eventually tried saving it as a GPX track the location points showed up, but they lost their names and are just labeled "waypoint".  So, how do I get this to import a gpx file properly and keep the waypoint names?

I've successfully imported points and names from KMLs created in Google My Maps and converted to GPXs, then displayed on OsmAnd using My Places. And I've done the same using Viking GPX.  So I'm wondering if the problem is that the name data is not in your GPX itself or is not formatted in a way OsmAnd expects.

@Bart
Yr post is the "nearest" answer to my general question how to export/edit/re-import gpx file(s). I was trying this with limited success. Here are my "open" points .. and I hope you (or someone else) can help with a general attempt.

I'm using
-- OSMAND+ 3.1.5  on Android 8.0.0
-- Linux/Mint 19 (Tara)

To download the .gpx files (like favorites.gpx) there is no problem. And with the hard way to edit the .pgx file using an editor (atom) is OK also.
To upload that edited file back to OSMAND+ installation seems to be a problem. If the name is different like 'favorites1.gpx' it's shown in the Android directory, also opening the file in external program like 'GPX Viewer' (vers. 1.29.8) is OK, the favorites are shown on a google maps.

The problem is to "replace" or overwrite the normal favorites.gpx file.
-- to upload it with the Android/Linux cable link, also no error msg, the file isn't changed on the Android.
-- renaming with using the link from Linux or also on Android with a file manager fails.
(with Android: SD-Card --> Eigene Dateien -> Android -> data -> net.osmand.plus -> files -> favorites.gpx)

There is reported OSMAND holds the user/app data also at some other places, but those infos seems to be (very) old, so I'm not sure what are the true right locations. Probably the location is the primary problem? Any help for that?

Last not least, what is the best way to edit the favorite and track gpx data. What are the "experts" using?

Hello,

What is the best way to import Google Maps starred places to OsmAnd?

Many thanks!

I think it's possible if, as noted above, the places were created in Google My Maps. But I don't know a way to do it using Google Maps. The limitation is with Google, not OsmAnd.

If you have difficulties with changing anything (renaming or replacing a file) somewhere on the external SD-card that hasn't anything to do with OSMAnd.
You might try a different file manager like FX or Total Commander on your Android device. I have never had any problems that OSMAnd uses this new version of favourites.xml nearly immediately after restarting OSMAnd. You might try to clear the cache if OSMAnd before starting it.

P.S. I wish OSMAnd would allow several files of favourites, e.g. in a dedicated subfolder though.

I don't really understand the problem ...
I have several 'Maps' with Google Maps and exporting from Google Maps and  importing into OSMAND is no problem.
1) Export entire map or specific folder as KML-file
2) Use GPS-Babel to convert  KML to GPX file
3) Transfer GPX from PC to Phone
4) Open OSMAND --> My Places --> + (bottom left)  -> select downloaded File
 You can have several Files, and can also assign different colors

On OSMAND these files are merged into favorites.gpx (under Android/data/net.osmand/files/)

I think what you're describing is effectively a set of POIs saved in Google My Maps as a specific map, which does work as you describe.  But I don't see a way to export POIs that have just been saved (as "favorites", "Want to go", or "Starred places") in Google Maps. Which is what the questioner seems to be asking.
