I decided to cleanup some Osmand folder stuff so I deleted all the "osmand/tiles/Mapnik files thinking they must be cached online map data. I did nothing to the various state/country ".obf" files which remain in the Osmand folder. Now when I go back to view the map there is no map visible - at any level. A message pops up saying "offline map available" but I already have "map layers" > "map source" > "offline vector maps" selected.

I am stuck. Apparently I am missing something, but what? Thanks for any help.

In your osmand folder there is a "ind.cache" file. Please remove it. It holds an index of your available maps. If it isn't there it will be rebuilt automatically. For that reason the first start will take longer.

And by the way:

but I already have "map layers" > "map source" > "offline vector maps" selected.

This is not necessary at all if you don't use online maps. Go to settings->Plugin manager and disable "Online maps". This will remove the map source, and overlay/underlay map options in the map layers option and only use offline maps.

Thanks for you reply Harry but I am sorry to say that turning off Online maps in Plugins and removing the ind.cache file did not return the maps to the screen.

I still get the message that "offline vector map is available for this location" and to Menu > Map layers > Map Source > Offline Vector Maps but now with online maps turned off Menu > Map layers has no Map Source option.
The ind.cache did rebuild (but is smaller) and the initializing was a bit longer.

I suppose I could try reinstalling the app but would I lose the various states and regions I have downloaded?

Hello Fred,

your big offline map files are stored on your SD card or similar external memory on your device.

At that position, the Data structure is NOT touched if you uninstall Osmand app from your android system.

So try to completely uninstall it, and reinstall.

Maybe clear app data inside app settingd from android itself before.

Thanks Stephan.
Your idea of clearing the app cache and date solved the problem.
