Please advise.  With one of my devices I have no trouble updating maps.
With the other, it is not happening.
Symptoms:-
I open OsmAnd
Click the hamburger menu.
Select "Download maps".
Am offered "All downloads", "Local", and "Updates".
"Local" shows a list of numerous maps.
"All downloads" Shows only "Voice prompts ..."
"Updates" shows only "OsmAnd Pro".
I'm using Osmand+
Version is shown as 4.0.8 2021,09,22.
Android is shown as 4.4.4
Device is SM 1560.
Please advise how to solve.  (BTW, "Buy a new tablet" is not the correct answer!)
Thanks
Paul W

Wow: 4.4 was released in Octobe 2013 and EOL in October 2017.

It sure looks like a good answer to me!

The usual advice would be "please ensure you are running the most recent
version of OsmAnd".

I don't know what a "SM 1560" is, but another answer is to put Lineage
on it, to get a newer Android version. If of course that is possible.

You might want to keep your tablet, so I will not advise you to buy a new tablet. But you must upgrade your Android to a higher version as 4.4 is completely not supported anymore. Security, including internet access, has changed a lot over the Android versions and OsmAnd adapted.
What's more, OsmAnd's minimum supported Android version is 7.0 (SDK 24).  You were extremely lucky it still worked.
So you simply need a higher Android version. If that's not possible, you need to buy ..... Oh no. That was not the correct answer :)

Best,
Harry

Hi Greg T.  Your suggestion "put Lineage on it, to get a newer Android version" looks like a sane way forward.  Thank you.
(I'll have to get my very hi-tec son to do it for me!)
Thank you.

Hi Harry.  Good to know you're still supporting me!  Thank you.
Your "unwanted" answer will doubtless come into play one day, but meanwhile I follow Greg's suggestion "put Lineage on it ...."

Hi,

You mentioned SM 1560, but I assume you mean SM-T560, a Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6 (SM‑T560)
There are unofficial LineageOS builds (e.g. LineageOS 14.1 / Android 7.1, sometimes newer community ports) .These are made by developers on XDA / community forums.

  • Your Android version is too old. That is why you also run such an old OsmAnd version. The Osmand version doesn't get updated either anymore. Maps have changed some 6 months ago, and your old Osmand can't handle these anymore.
