Hello,
I just started using OSMAnd (after a using a Chinese car GPS w/o map updates) and want to add my 'existing' favorites to the OSMAnd app.
I couldn't figure it out yet how add a favorite entry without planning a route.
(I'm sitting at my desk and I'm not traveling right now).
Is there a way to do that easily?
Or would be an option to create a gpx file with all my favorites and than import the file into OSMAnd?
Any help is much appreciated.
Thx.

Hi!

You can import a GPX file containing your favorites directly into OsmAnd on your device, or you can create an account on the OsmAnd website (https://osmand.net/map/), import the file there, and later sync it to your device. A free account allows you to sync your favorites and settings between your devices. You will need to log in to OsmAnd Cloud on your device to sync the data.

i never succeeded in importing markers into an all new installation of osmand. these old markers are still important to me, but I could never locate them in all the files I have still saved on my pc. could any way of the above help re-installing them into my new installation (without deleting anything there)?

I can't comment on "bulk copy in", but to add a "one-off" favorite
manually, slide/zoom the map around until you can see the spot where
you want to add the favorite.

Then long-press the map at the spot where you want the favorite to
exist, which will drop a "pin" on the map at that spot, and open a
small menu at the bottom of the screen.

On the left side of the small menu is "star/Add" (star being a star
icon). Press that button and you will add a favorite.

Hi! Markers should be stored in a *.gpx file. After locating the file you can import it to OsmAnd. If it doesn't help, please contact us at sup...@osmand.net

thank you, dmytro! these are all the files with .gpx:
2025-05-14 21_46_43-gpx - Suchergebnisse in _files_.jpg
if I could get the older markers out of these and ADD them to the actual ones WITHOUT deleting those, that would be great. I hope you can help (also with my POI-problem ;-) _ thank you!

Hi! Markers are located in itinerary.gpx. You can import this file to OsmAnd, and it will appear in Tracks. Open it, then go to Points, and you will see a group with all the markers. Tapping the menu button (three dots) next to the group name allows you to add this group to your Markers.

when I open the old itinerary.gpx editor shows 12.869 charcters, but they are all invisible, while in the actual file they are visible. if I would pull that file just over it would replace the actual file ...

Hi, perhaps you are updating the files from your home WiFi?

One possibility is that your phone is using the 5 GHz wifi band, while the tablet uses the 2.4 GHz.

5 GHz allow much faster transfer rates, up to 300 Mbit/s or more, while 2.4 has more limited speed (but with the advantage of a better propagation and range, especially through the walls).

Also using a mobile network, there is a chance, i.e. that your phone uses 5G technology, while the tablet has 4G or less.

The difference is in technology capabilities, IMO.
Happy pedaling!

Please provide details about any remaining issues and clarify what you mean by "invisible characters." You can import any GPX file, and it will be visible in Tracks, so it will not replace current map markers.

explorer indicates this number of characters, but editor does nor show them.

however, when I go to settings, all the way down it shows import. but to import it must be an „OSF“-file only, osmand says.

how can my old markers (kartenmarkierungen, the coloured flags)? please help a dummy to get his old markers back without deleting the new ones!

I would like to extend my initial question.
I want to transfer the POI from my JunSun GPS (D800) to OSMAnd and looked up the content of the GPS but there is no *.gpx file stored on it.
Does any one know in which file the POI's are stored on a JunSun GPS stored?
Thanks for your feedback.

I think you can export file in any format from the device, and later convert it to GPX.

we talked about IMporting, and osmand says to import it needs to be OSF!

OsmAnd can import a variety of file formats, which you can find details about at https://docs.osmand.net/docs/technical/osmand-file-formats/. OSF is an internal format used for the combined import and export of data

this says: nothing but OSF accepted!

I would still be glad if you would get back to me and tell me how to import these gpx-files when osmand tells me I can only import osf-files. thank you!

I don't know whether you're using Android or iPhone, or what sort of desktop system you have. But for OsmAnd on Android, I use GPX files by copying them to OsmAnd's file space on the Android device. First find where that file space is (for me, it's /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/net.osmand.plus/files), then look for a "tracks" folder. Any GPX file that's in tracks will be visible to OsmAnd from "My Places/Tracks" or from Configure Map/Tracks.

How you copy files onto an Android device depends on your preferences, how your device is configured and what OS you're using on the machine from which you're copying the GPX file. I use adb from a Linux machine, but there are other ways that you might find friendlier.

It's better to configure OSMAnd to use  .../Android/obb.
Then — with the help of Shizuku — file managers like MixPlorer or Totalcommander are able to copy files to
net.osmand.plus/files

Normally I just open a gpx file by tapping it for example in the download folder and choose the option "open (with)". If Osmand is installed, you will have the option to open with it. The rest is self-explanatory.
Hope this helps.

My Places – Favorites tap on + button if you need to import Tracks go to Tracks tab - tap on Menu button (3 dots) – Import. You can find all this information in documentation https://docs.osmand.net/docs/user/personal/tracks/manage-tracks/#import--export-track and https://docs.osmand.net/docs/user/personal/favorites#export--import
