The Dutch voice guidance (nl-tts) does not work in osmand v1.3.1 beta and development version. I discovered this problem on several different Android phones and tablets. You can reproduce this as follows:

1. Install osmand free from the Google Play store (currently v1.3.1 beta) or development release (OsmAnd-default.apk 31-May-2013) from http://download.osmand.net/latest-night-build/. Install it on your phone or BlueStacks Android emulator from http://www.bluestacks.com/.
2. Start osmand > click Settings >  Data Management > Download button (upper right corner)
3. Select at least one map and the Voice packs (TTS):
- en-tts (English)
- nl-tts (Dutch Nederlands)
- fr-tts (French)

4. Click Menu > Settings > Navigation > (Car, Bicycle or Pedestrian) > Voice Guidance > en-tts.
5. Click Menu > Exit (This step is required when changing the TTS language!)
6. Start osmand again and click Map.
7. Select Car, Bicycle or Pedestrian as configured in step 4.
8. Set a random destination on the map. Then the en-tts says correctly: "Route recalculated, distance about x kilometers."

9. Now repeat step 4 with setting nl-tts. No voice guidance in Dutch, its completely silent.

10. Repeat step 4 with fr-tts. This works fine as well as de-tts etc.

Any idea why the nl-tts does not work?

Hi kanariearie,
(would any non-dutch know what that means?)

It works correct on my phone, but doesn't work on my tablet.
The point is that google comes with english, french, german, italian and spanish for it's tts engines (at least on my phone and tablet).
At first I tried the nl-tts on my tablet but it didn't work at all., just like your experience. So I abandoned it.
Only 2 days ago I tried it on my phone and found that the google tts "falls back" on the english voice trying to speak the dutch tts strings: it sounds horrible but it does work. It's slightly better when I switch my google tts to german as the pronunciation of german looks a bit more to dutch then english does.
Anyway: it doesn't work on my tablet as google tts doesn't want to fall back to english but tries to use dutch anyway: that doesn't work, so you hear nothing. The other thing that happens is that google-tts simply stops.
But it does work on my phone.

Then I downloaded svox from google play and installed the 2 dutch voices (trial for 7 days) and that works on my phone. I have already uninstalled svox again.
I did not try it on my tablet, will do that this weekend.

Harry

Thanks for your fast response. Your're right, Android has no Dutch TTS engine, so it remains silent. I've installed SVOX with Lena Dutch voice which works perfect.

Thanks!
