Hello,

I've been using "rmaps" on my Android for guiding me on my small bike
trips (following a .gpx generated by a web route planner). I was
already impressed with that open source application, but after finding
OsmAnd I decided to give it a try, mainly because of the very
informative UI. Some features like showing your current speed and how
far you are from your destination attracted me. Congratulations for
this very nice piece of software.

However, one of the things that I miss the most is the ability to see
your "breadcrumb" trail on the map. Searching on the mailing list
history I found a "feature request" for that [1], but the discussions
didn't go further. Are there any other links I should take a look?

Although I have no previous experience with Android development, I
would be willing to learn it to implement this feature and help the
project. Do you guys hang out on IRC? How is the availability of the
developers? Would anyone have time to kind of "mentor" me and give
some continous feedback?

Thanks.

Off-topic 1: on OsmAnd 1.1.2 beta when I open the map and immediately
click on the Where Am I button before the GPS get my position, the app
crashes. I submitted a report using the native Android workflow. Is it
OK to submit bug reports like this, or should I create a new ticket on
the Google Code project?

Off-topic 2: a very important aspect to me is to be able to upload
my .gpx history a web service (Strava). What happens if am I recording
my .gpx track and the app crashes? Will I lose any data? Also, "rmaps"
has some nice for recording tracks. Instead of a fixing time interval
like OsmAnd, they have 2 options: "minimum distance between points"
and "minimum time between points".

Hi Fernando!

If "breadcrumb" is the track you leave behind you, then you can achieve this with the following:

In "Define View" select GPX-Track ..., then select "Show Actual Track" from the list.

If this is not what you wants: Sorry.

Regards
Manfred

Hi Manfred,

Thank you! That's exactly what I was looking for :O.
Now I feel kinda stupid for not finding it before (I really looked for
it). Maybe this could be added to the FAQ or as a feature in the
feature list?

My other questions:
- is it OK to report a bug using the Android bug reporter (when the
app crashes) or should I create a ticket on Google Code?
- if I am recording a .gpx track and the app crashes, do I lose the
data?

Moreover, I still want to contribute to the project by implementing
something :)

Another feature I liked a lot on "rmaps" was the "pause" and "stop"
distinction when recording the .gpx track. On OsmAnd a new file is
always created, right? Do you think it would be nice to have an option
"continue previous track" vs. "record new track" when turning on the
"Record GPX"?

Thank you,
Fernando

Hello fernando, Welcom to the project! any help is always very welcome!  :-)

Your answers:
- You will never lose ANY GPX track, no matter if or how Osmand crashes, or whatever
- If you are not sure about a bug or feature request, this forum is likely a good place to post a question / log file first
- You can pause a GPX recording any time using the GPX recording widget (the one in the right panel, make it show via "Menu / Define view / Configure screen"). Repeatedly clicking on the widget will start/pause/resume the recording, you can verify by the recorded distance being shown in the widget itself (while recording). This distance is NOT reset by repeated clicks. If you want to "close" a file, go to  e.g  Settings / General / Save current trac  (Maybe also via the top LEFT little "Logging services" widget / Option Stop GPX recording, not sure right now.)

Hope I caught all your questions.

Best regards,
Hardy
