There are several ways to generate driving instructions on a PC and use those directions to generate a GPX "Route" file (as opposed to a GPX "Track" file)

Is there any way to generate a GPX Route file from an OsmAnd directions?

The only option I have found is to generate a "Track" file.  It seems as if the data is there behind the route directions that visually shows each impending turnpoint, but no apparent way to export only that data as turnpoints.

FWIW, I'm active in a number of other maps/nav forums where the interest in this capability on an android device is extremely high, but I have not found any way to do this just using android apps.

Thanks in advance,
Beverly Howard

On a recent nightly, if I save the route from the "Route Details" screen (the signpost button, then the i button), the route entries are at the end of the gpx file (after a bunch of track entries).

Is that what you are looking for?

Wow... exactly what I was looking for.

I would have never found this since the routes that I had been
experimenting with are long (150 mi) motorcycle routes, so, there are
a huge number of track entries that hid the route entries at the
bottom.

Related question; Is there any way to modify a route... for example
dragging the route to use a specific path other than one of the button
(car, hiking, etc) options?

In our case, how to easily layout a specific back roads route for a day trip?

Thanks again.

You can add waypoints to the route (long tap the spot you want the waypoint to bring up a location marker, tap the location marker to add as waypoint). For long routes in areas with a lot of roads this might not work very well (or will require many waypoints).

If your idea of back roads lines up reasonably well with a class of OSM roads (say, secondary or below), you could probably adjust some values in routing.xml so that the routing engine made better choices (I don't know much about how to do this; I guess you would change the priority of some of the classes. There are occasional discussions of such things in the list archive).

Back again with another question... and some background info.

My current quest is to find options to generate and work with GPX
Route files using only an Android device. I have a number of options
and tools to do this on a PC, but the goal is to come up with
completely mobile options.

While OsmAnd exports current directions to a GPX file, that file
contains both track and route information. On a 150 mile trip, there
are well over 1,000 track entries, so, with the android os limits for
highlighting and marking text in any text editor, it is virtually
impossible to edit OsmAnd exported files to remove the trackpoints and
obtain just the GPX route information.

I'm new to OsmAnd, but, after working with the free version for the
last several days, I purchased OsmAnd+ (ver 1.8.3) with the hope that
it would have the option to save specifically to a route file, but,
that does not appear to be possible.

Worse, where the Free version had the option to "Share" the current
route, tapping the "Share Icon" on the route information screen does
not work in the + version (the save to disk does work, and the share
icon worked, somewhat, in the Free version)

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to derive a gpx route
file from OsmAnd or doing so with another map utility app using only
the android device?

I did not try, but it could be a solution.

Perhaps a XML-editor could be useful.

Sorry I'm late to respond.

GPSVisualizer is actually a great tool that I have been using for years.
Even better news is that it works and is easy to use with mobile chrome.

The only thing to watch out for is that when you tap the "Choose File"
button, it's not obvious to select "Documents" to upload a gpx file...

imho, that selection should be named "Files" since tapping "documents"
takes you to the android file system and any file can be be navigated to
and selected. This does bring up the need to take the time and
configure OsmAnd to set an easy to access default file location.

The only downside of using GPSVisualizer is that it requires a data
connection. If it's not possible to connect when preparing routes, it
would obviously be valuable to have options on the android to create
easily editable gpx files.

Thanks for the response,

Hi there,
I am in the same situation as you. I would like to have the Android device load an existing .GPX file and then  use that route. My routes are of 600km with maybe 30-40 way points. (Motorcycle routes too) .
I'd like the ability to modify the route on an Android device, and export it so it can be shared to my fellow riders. who may have Android or Garmin Zumo devices.  This would help  me reduce the reliance of a Windows based Tablet/PC on our trips, and also a data connection.

I'm still looking for the ideal setup for Motorcycle touting. OSMAnd seems to be the best so far. (Wish is had a 3D mode like Sygic does though)

Does anyone know why "route details" are not available in my OsmAnd Maps?

There have been some reports of maps not containing elevation data, which might cause the problem you're seeing.  See https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/osmand/ruNk_z6mtf8
