Have an ECW file ( detailed topo map) of a small area in Spain. Downloaded from IGN ( instituto geografico nacional)
Want  to have this map in my Osmand for hiking purposes

Should this file be converted in another format to use it in Osmand ?
Have been looking around  in Google but seems to be very complicated.

thanks

Osmand uses by default vector maps. Converting the ECW might be very difficult. I suggest you will try Locus or OruxMaps for hiking: http://www.oruxmaps.com/deinteres_en.html

In the link you can find SW to convert ECW to a format that OruxMaps understand.

I hope this helps.

I can convert georeferenced TIFF images to OSMAND format, and would be happy to attempt small conversions for those who ask nicely.
Cheers

try mapc2mapc application. It supports ECW, GeoTiff and many other formats.
You will be able to create tileset and copy it to osmand folder.

Free version will add red x-es on the whole map but it is usable.
I have scanned raster maps put in Osmand this way. Remember to switch on "online maps" plugin to be able to select Your tileset.
