Hello!
I have tried and tried - no success so far.
I have read and googled - no help so far.
So, can someone help me?
Is is possible to get osmand configured the way it uses SD- card as a storage?
It's not accepting the SD- card for storage.
I always get the error "can not create storage..."
Osmand is the latest version.
My phone is Caterpillar S30 with android version 5.1.
And the SD- card is formatted to be an internal memory.
Thanks!
BR Mika

On Android 5.1, you have to be rooted. Otherwise, not possible.

I'd think if your sd card is formatted as internal storage then there's no sd card. Using the sd card as internal storage extends the device's storage with the sd card, "seamlessly"

Hi!

Oh - too bad hear about that rooting.
Is this more like an android problem or is it depending on the osmand?
Just about curiosity...
I'm perhaps not gonna root my phone...

Actually - the sd card is formatted to be an internal memory.
But, anyway osmand is showing in the maps download the "real" physical inner memory.
Which in my case is 8GB.
So - it's not extending the memory seamlesly.

What about the manual map download and placement ?
Not sure about OSMAnd, but AFAIK, LocusMap cannot download vector maps
to the SD card, but it can use them once they are on the card.

http://download.osmand.net/rawindexes/
http://download.osmand.net/road-indexes/

I do not use SD on my Xiaomi MI A1 with 64GB internal storage,
so I cannot check it myself.

BTW, I have thought the possibility to use the SD card
as seemlessly added internal memory
is available since Android 6, but I may be wrong.
Being formatted so is little different thing, this is just about a used
filesystem.

Hello.
Öööhhhh.... for me it seems that this would not work.
Allthough I could copy some files to SD card I can not set osmand to read from sd card.
This is the main problem.
Osmand gives the opportunity to specify where ther data is located.
And it gives an alternative to locate data to the sd card.
BUT - it will not accept that!

I could use maps on SD card for OSMAnd, but I was a happy Android 4.3 user then.

So. This is getting weird... As far add i know, and i never did this, because storage is kaputt if sd card dies, i never used it to extend internal storage. If you did so successfully, your internal storage indeed should be bigger...
I'm using an sd card as sd card, since android 5 (now on 7.1) for osmand with no problems, but you have to take the android road. Put in in Android/data/net.osmand[.plus] (i have the paid version) via settings. This should work without root

In principle you absolutely do not need to root your phone to use an SD card with OsmAnd on Android 5.x.

I used OsmAnd on Android 5.x with all my map data and favourites stored on the SD card.

As of Android 5.x, apps can read and write to their own directory on the SD card. On your SD card, there would be a directory called Android, and within that a directory called data, and within that a directory called net.osmand (free version) or net.osmand.plus (paid version). There might be a "files" directory within this.

Open OsmAnd, select Settings, General settings, Data storage folder, and select one of the "External storage" options. The path should look something like /storage/6419-1419/Android/data/net.osmand.plus/files

Also, for future versions of Android, I strongly recommend that you don't use the "adoptable storage" feature, because it means the memory card will only be readable in that phone.

Thanks
Nick

+1 to nickjoh's response. This is the correct Android way.

Hello Guys!

I got it now!
It's working.
I got all maps etc. data stored to sd- card.
First I formatted the sd- card to be a removable storage, not an internal memory.
After that I could move - and moved - the osmand- app to sd- card (just to save phones memory).
And then I defined the data storage of osmand to be in that sd-card.
No probs!
For me it seems the problem was from the beginnning that I formatted the sd-card to be a "inner" memory of my phone.
Osmand seemed not to like that at all. ;)

But.
Solved now.
And all is working.
Thanks to everybody!

BR Mika
