I tried modifying one of the example custom plugin package as described in the osmand blog. If I rename one of the zip examples to a .osf file osmand reads the plugin in. If I extract the files, make a very simple edit, then zip it and rename it to an .osf file, osmand is not able to import it. Sometimes an error box flashes but it's unreadable.

I'm using 7zip on Windows.

The compressed file size is slightly smaller than the original example test plugin zip.

Is there some other magic needed to make an .osf file other than renaming it as the blog describes?

I'd really like to try this feature, but I have not been able to get very far.

Hello,
If you are creating a 7z file it's not the same as creating a zip file since it uses a different compression algorithm.
If you click "Add to archive.."  in 7zip be sure that the Archive Format is zip.
You can also have problems if you compress the parent directory, since it will add another hierarchy level.
It would be easier to help if you share your osf file with us.
Best regards
Everton

I was using zip format. Also tried an online compressor.

What folder should be at the top of the hierarchy. Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong.

.json files should be at the root of the zip, so if you are using windows you must select the files and the res, routing, rendering folders (in the case of the example) and compress it.
If you are compressing the folder that contains these files you are adding another level of hierarchy.
I hope it helps

That was the problem. It added an additional folder at the top of the hierarchy. When I removed that it worked. I knew it was something simple. THanks.
