Hi, there,

You guys are doing a great job regarding offline navigation.

I am thinking of building an android tour guide app(always free) based on osmand. It will contain maps, turn-by-turn voice navigation, and voice guide for tourist who are visiting a new city.
The current osmAnd source code has lot of features which are not needed by my project and I am thinking of trimming them off and simplifying the POIs.

I have a few questions regarding the source code dependency.

Are there any special libs osmAnd need outside the source code repository? Is it safe to say that I will be able to compile and build APK without additional libs from osmand.net or from internet?

Many thanks to your great work.

Cheers
Steven

¡I like the idea of tourguide functionality in osmand. I would prefer to see it implemented as an optional plugin.

There is already a way to add recorded audio to a map point. All it would take is a wsy to play back the audio when you are within a certain distance of that point, similar to the way it speaks POIs along a calclated route. Filtering by the type of "tourpoint" would be nice, and it would also be nice to enable them without having to be along a calculated route. Garmin calls these proximity alerts. The option to display video, audio, and photos, text or a combination would be nice.

It would also be prefered if anyone could create a tourguide, so shoukd have a well documented interface and/or tools for developers.

Ideally, all media could be stored on the device to avoid data charges.

Hi Steven,

I like your idea very much, however OsmAnd has the plugin architecture. Why not build a tourguide plugin and use all base functionality from Osmand. In that case you simply lift with Osmand in case of newer functionality or improved functionaliy, also in case maps are improved, rendering is changed, data is added to the maps, etc.

Hi, Harry,

I will think about it.
Is there any documentation about OsmAnd plugin architecture?

Cheers
