Hi all,

I just came across OpenTraffic (apparently a free, global traffic speed data set linked to OpenStreetMap built with open source software):
http://opentraffic.io/
http://conveyal.com/blog/2015/06/08/launching-opentraffic/
and think it would be really powerful if this functionality could be implemented in OSMAnd.

I haven't looked into the code or anything, but it sounds very promising.

I filed an issue in the tracker here:
https://github.com/osmandapp/Osmand/issues/1432
but thought that it was interesting enough that people may want to be alerted to it in the group.

When I looked at it a week or so ago there was nothing very explicit about how the data would be licensed and such, so I think it is still in a very early stage.

Hopefully it's something OSMAnd can integrate though, it's users would benefit from the data and potentially be a valuable source of data. There is some code up on Github, and a sketch of how it might work:

Do we know how Google gets this info for Google Maps?
As most of the normal traffic info seems to be coming from (local) governmental orgs, there must be some kind of arrangement possible. I bet Google will throw in their money power if they need to, but it would be great if we could tap into that same source.

Google also owns Waze so could get realtime data from wazers

this look great, also looking at their map dust idea, is a great way of improving the maps by everyday people.

hello

Why not at least put a way to report traffic jams by the users and that would be exploited by osmand to signal to other users that there is a traffic jam, accident or not. At least that troubleshooting is better than nothing. I personally think I stop my subscription osmand live because I do not feel you want to offer something

sorry for my bad english
:)

Well, reporting is easy enough: real time data from users of the app is uploaded, for example when the speed has a mismatch with the designated speed of the road.

The problem is to figure out the difference between a single driver parking and a real traffic jam, especially when few devices are in use.

Yes it is true what you say, but I do not even talk about automatic detection of a traffic jam, but rather a troubleshooting system until a more efficient means is put in place

Where the user would even declare bottlenecks with a button like in waze he sometimes asks us if we are parked or in a traffic jam and we answer yes or no.

But then it's an idea
