I'm not getting any speed camera warnings, neither visual or audio on UK maps (haven't tried in other countries). The cameras are shown on the map as small blue icons. Screen alerts/speed camera is switched on, voice prompt/announce/speed cameras is switched on. I do get all the other announcements like pedestrian crossings and speed bump, just no speed cameras.
In the main settings uninstall speed cameras has NOT been selected.

Is this a bug or have I missed something?

I have tried this on 2 devices
Sony XZ1 compact OsmAnd+ 4.1.11
Sony Z3 compact OsmAnd   4.2.7

Hello! Thank you for the feedback!
Please contact us at sup...@osmand.net and provide coordinates of the start and destination points of the route so we could test it.

Thanks for your reply, try 52.974, -1.088 to 52.984, -1.115. This road (Westdale Lane) has 4 camera.

It might also be a map issue.
In OpenStreetMap, a speed camera is not a very simple object: a relation must be established between the camera itself and the monitored road/street.

I guess someone has already requested this, but please provide 1 or 2 examples of camera(s) not being announced and their position, so we can also check if they are properly mapped.

Cheers,
Max

Hi Max,

So far it has not alerted me to any speed cameras at all. I don't think it is a mapping issue, I have tried Mapfactor which also uses Openstreetmaps and that works, just tried on the example road I gave in last post.
Some more examples (tried in simulation mode):
53.001 -1.001 to 52.994 -0.992. This has average speed cameras
52.954 -1.098 to 52.955 -1.090. Standard speed cameras.

Thanks
Jon

Sorry, but I was a little busy yesterday, but I've finally done the check :-) ,

As I suspected, the cameras you reported are just mapped as POI: there's no relation between the camera device and the monitored road, so OsmAnd will probably show an icon there but is unable to announce them.

Just to have a reference, try looking at this camera (located in Italy), with an OSM editor (either ID or JOSM): https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/8303708992:

You can fix the issue by yourself, if you know how to map relations in OpenStreetMap, or ask someone in the OSM Community to do that (it's in the common interest, after all).

For further information on how to map the camera, you can check this:

I don't know mapfactor but some other apps that use OSM for the base map (e.g. Magic Earth) add in speed cameras from another source as far as I can tell.

Hi Massimo,

Thanks for looking into this.
As it looks like most of the speed cameras have not been added to the map correctly & it not really practical for me to search and change every single one in the country, is it possible for Osmand to give an alert when approaching a speed camera POI which is located close to the road I'm travelling on, no matter what, if any, "relation" has been added to OSM?
For example, when you are 400m from a speed camera PIO, it checks the location of the PIO and if it is within three meters of the road you are on, trigger an alert?
Or if that's not possible, just trigger an alert whenever a speed camera POI is nearby, even if not on your road. I would rather get a few false warnings rather than non.

Cheers

Jon

Hi Jon,
OsmAnd has very basic map editing capabilities: you can just add some POI you may encounter along the way (i.e. a restaurant), it has no capability at all for what concerns editing existing objects or creating new, complex ones, as a relation is. So, unfortunately, you need to use a real OSM editor to manage that.

One thing you can try is to make it announcing POIs along the calculated route, you can set this in Configure Profile -> Navigation settings -> Voice prompts.
The Problem is that this way every POI you're approaching will be announced, restaurants, cafes, shops, drinking water fountains, etc.; it can become quite messy when driving across an urban area.

If you want a specific announcement for cameras only, I would recommend to use CamSam: it can run in parallel with OsmAnd and you can also have a small widget superimposed to the OsmAnd navigation screen (paid version only).
CamSam is free for fixed cameras, while the paid version will also report mobiles (BTW, make sure it's legal in your Country to have such announcements).

Kind regards,
Max

Hi Max,

Thanks for the advise, I've been trying CamSam and that seems to be a good solution. I'll give up trying to get the speed cameras to alert in Osmand and use CamSam. Thanks again.

Cheers

Jon
