I have downloaded a road only map for the first time (Netherlands europe-road) and it only sometimes displays anything. I have seen roads at zoom 15, but when I pan around, the screen goes blank. Then sometimes when I zoom in and out again the map disappears.
Mostly it displays nothing. I just went to my GPS location and zoomed in all the way and the map appeared. Then zoomed out to 14 and the map disappears.

Is this a hardcoded thing? Because at zoom 15 the map is not really useful, I see only a 2x3 km area.

No-one have any insight in this?

Have you downloaded the latest worldmap as well? It has been mentioned a number of times that you need it in 1.6.
When using the roads-only map of the Netherlands I have roads on all zoom levels. Note that below zoom level 11 you might get broken/interrupted roads, but they are still visible.

I didn't notice that but I think it might be related to not enough free RAM. Then updating and refreshing map becomes sluggish and unpredictable.  Would you check your free memory and see if it is related to that?

Like many cases where smart phones behave unexpectedly, the poor phone is overloaded with too much software and services. In that case you might try Auto Memory Manager,  the better memory manager, because it prioritises memory tasks and is utterly adjustable.

This was tested in pre-1.6. 1.5.2 If I'm correct.

Then please upgrade to 1.6.  OsmAnd 1.5 works with the 1.5 maps.
1.6 works with the new worldmap and new country maps, as of early October.

Well, it didn't work in 1.5 with the 1.5 maps. I only recently got the update for 1.6.1 and have now tried it. I have updated all my maps.

When I have the map at my location, then up to zoom 15 I see the map, from zoom 14 and upwards I do not see the map.
Interesting is that in zoom 15 and higher, there is a light grey box with text "Download Netherlands" in it. What does this mean?
Also, when I move the map away from my current location, it goes blank again. Then I zoom in to level 16 and it reappears.

Lack of free RAM like Andre suggests seems unlikely. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab II, It says now 350MB RAM free and 420MB RAM used.
Also with the normals maps (which are a lot bigger) I have no problems seeing them in all zoomlevels. When I move the map to Germany, the regular maps of Germany appear without trouble.

I have attached some screenshots. The first is at zoom 15 (which translates on my device as 500 meters in the ruler) showing the border with Germany, displaying the complete map of Germany NRW and the empty map of Netherlands roads only, the second is at zoom 15 showing somewhere in my vicinity with the Netherlands roads only map still showing, third is a little further away from my location where the map disappears, fourth screenshot is at that same location, one zoomlevel in (16) where the map reappears again.

This has nothing to do with 1.6 or 1.5. So we had some mis-communication in the previous mails.

It has to do with regular maps in combination with roads-only maps. In the map screen go to configure screen and check one of the last options "road maps" (wegenkaarten).
If you set this to: "where no regular map is available", it should display both types of maps.
If that doesn't work a very old bug concerning roads_only maps in combination with regular maps has returned (or it has never been away).

It only works when I set it to "Always - never show regular maps". And then obviously it never shows the normal map (for Germany). When I set it to "where no regular map is available" it works like I have described before.
Strangely: it also displays a roads-only map for Germany and I do not have that loaded. I can't imagine I'm seeing the worldmap in Germany. I see a lot of tracks and I don't suppose they're in the worldmap.

So, can we conclude that this is a bug?

Yes, it is a bug and it is a known bug. It was solved (at least that was how it was reported). I assume we need to bring it under attention again.
Feel free to add your comments to that ticket.
