I use Osmand in western africa. There I have the problem, that often main roads are tagged as "tracks" and not as primary or secondary road (western people think they can tag african roads like western roads). So I always have to zoom in and out to find the "track" which I have to use.

How can I make all the "tracks" visible in a lower zoom level? It doesnt matter for me if this are "tracks" or tracks :D

Can somebody help me.

Thank you

The other way is to go and fix the problem of labeling on the highways.  Which countries?

Thanks John

You might be able to accomplish what you're after by reducing the magnification.  First zoom in to where the tracks are visible. Then lower the magnification either through Configure map or by a long push to the + or - zoom buttons.  That should give you the same level of detail, but over a broader area

And just FYI, Configure map/Map style/Touring view will make the roads stand out.

Tracks are displayed as of zoomlevel 12 and all tracks as of zoomlevel 13.
In the default renderer,or one of the alternatives, you could "theoretically" change it and put that changed render style file into your OsmAnd folder.

However, in this case you might be out of luck.
OsmAnd maps have three layers. De detailed layer is for zoomlevels above 11.
The 2 lower layers don't contain the info which are not needed below that level. (0-7 and 8-11 I think. Haven't looked at it for a very long time)
In other words: Even if you decrease the min zoom level for tracks to e.g. 10, you would still not see them as they are not in that lower detail zoom level.

Domestic houses for instance are visible as of zoomlevel 16. However, as they are in the detailed level >11, you could make them visible as of zoom level 12.

I'm afraid you can only use the work-around Bart describes, or build your own maps using a different profile for tracks.

"I use Osmand in western africa. There I have the problem, that often main roads are tagged as 'tracks' and not as primary or secondary road (western people think they can tag african roads like western roads)."

This is precisely why I try to avoid editing info countries I'm not familiar with.

John's suggestion sounds like the best one. Not only would it solve your problem, it would help everyone else.

I would suggest that you start a discussion on the tagging OSM mailing list about updating road descriptions for the area you're in. Perhaps a set of wiki pages detailing the road network in west Africa, linked to from the main road pages, would help. You could include a link to those pages in your changeset comments when you exit roads.
