Making symbole bigger

I was out walking at the weekend and found that I couldn't see the footpaths on my phone screen. When I zoomed in by pinching the screen everything got bigger but as soon as I let go of the screen although the zoom level remains the same the size of the elements on the screen returns to what looks like 1 pixel wide lines. Even with my glasses on these are not particularly clear especially when the path runs through a wood or other map feature. 

Is there a way to make all the lines thicker to be seen easier? Or to change the style of the line eg to a red solid line from a grey dotted one?

Hi, Chris! You can increase the Map magnifier value under Menu – Configure Map. You can also adjust the text size separately, but doing this will also change the icon sizes.

Try Configure map - Map style "offroad". Perhaps that will be much better.

What he might mean is "pedestrian / walking" mode. That tends to make
trails more prominent.

Thanks for that. Learned something new. Switching map render to offroad in map view increased the contrast between footpaths and the background and also made the footpaths appear at lower zoom levels meaning I can see more area with the footpaths showing still

Is there a way of customising what zoom levels each type of symbol appears at? 

Also is there a way to identify what the symbols mean like a context sensitive key? E.g. press and hold on a dotted line and select "what is this?" And it says footpath or bridleway or whatever. The symbols change based on zoom level and map rendering style so it's more difficult to learn what each means.
