Is there a procedure shown anywhere for updating maps via PC download and then copy to phone rather than downloading from within the phone OSMAND+ app. The reason I ask is that it is always extremely slow getting updated offline maps via the phone app. It takes almost two hours for the app on my phone to download an update of the Australia-Oceania map using my home WiFi connection, whereas through the same wireless connection I can download the same map update on the PC from http://download.osmand.net/rawindexes/ in less than five minutes.

Why is the phone app is so slow?

What's your phone brand?
I have a cheap phone. A cheap phone normally has nothing more then a simple copper wire folded as a loop as wifi antenna. I do have a slow download as well.
A friend of mine has a Samsung S3. He has much faster downloads.
If I run OsmAnd from an Android Virtualbox environment on my laptop, I have a fast download as well.

I do have the feeling that the app download as such is slower then a normal download, but the main bottleneck is the normally bad wifi antenna in phones.

Yes you can download to PC, then copy to your phone. You will need to connect your phone to the PC with a USB cable, then activate the USB file transfer on the phone. Then copy the .obf file to the "Osmand" folder on the phone. It will be active the next time you start Osmand. DONE!
