What is OsmAnd API demo?

I see it in the play store but it's unclear to me what it is. Can it be installed, tried, and then uninstalled without mucking up an existing OsmAnd install?

Hi,
I'm not sure, but I think it's something related to app development: you should install it only if you are awriting some application based on positioning in order to get access to location support functions for OSM databases (OSMAND format).

Thank you. I downloaded the API demo app and tried it. Browsed thru the docs briefly.

I have an idea how I might use it without much modification.

I have built a tracking server to track multiple OsmAnd devices. They are displayed in an online web map.

But ideally, a user would want to see the group of icons being tracked on the OsmAnd map display instead of switching back and forth to a browser map.

The server stores tracked devices as a GeoJson file.

If the API can add and remove map points dynamically based on polling, then the API would be a low effort solution.

I'd like to see the ability to pick different icons and add POI descriptions as well. I will have to dig into the docs and code to see if that is possible.

I know nothing of gradle builds, so I'll have to learn that as well. If jre on a Windows system.

Osmand API manages transparent layers above maps, this is how OsMo plugin drew icons over maps.
