Hi,
I've made a rendering of OSM for the Western Alps in preparation of a
long mapping party (80 days next Summer, crossing the Alps). I would
like to put this on OsmAnd for anybody interesting (starting with
myself ;-) ).
I can offer two things:
- on-demand tiles from my website at: http://www.outdoormaps.org/?p=35
- a compressed package with all the tiles (about 5GB uncompressed).
Additionnaly I'd like to transfer the tiles to my own phone.
I've seen in the app a way to select many different OSM-based TMS and
I wonder how I could add my own there, and how users (included myself)
could install all my tiles after downloading one single (big) files.

There are other OSM hiking maps around but this one has its own
particularities, I think it is worth sharing, cf. eg. at:
http://www.outdoormaps.org/simple_map.htm?zoom=15&lat=44.47125&lon=6.91502&layers=B0
My setup for accessing the (statitc) tiles can be seen from the
javascript at:
http://www.outdoormaps.org/simple_map.htm
It's based on OSM TMS.

Thanks
Mayeul

Hi!

Nice. You can add the source if you want to make it more public to tile_sources.xml file on github,
than anybody could install your tile server as a map source.

Thanks a lot!
What about pre-caching?
maybe something like "file::///sdcard/tiles/{0}/{1}/{2}.png" would
work and allow everybody to choose their tileset, but maybe there are
other (better) solutions?
Where and how are the tiles cached currently? Is it possible to choose
an online TMS and populate it with one single download (put it on
sdcard from the PC)?
Thanks

Hi!

I don't quite understand what you ask. But look at Offline manager in OsmAnd, you will also see
there are cached tiles in there. osmand/tiles on sdcard I suppose.
You can do also from OsmAnd a batch tile download, zoom to area you want, bring up the context
menu, and choose map download. It will ask you which zoom levels to download.
OsmAnd's map creator can be used to do such downloads using pc, however, think before you do
this, batch downloads are not what tile servers like. Consider using the vector maps instead, if possible.
Or try to download only areas you will really visit.

Best regards,

Hi,
Thanks a lot Pavol!
Yes, offline manager is the correct thing.

"I don't quite understand what you ask."
I generated myself all the tiles I need (as a static slipply map, not
a TMS). They are on my website:
See here to know where: http://www.outdoormaps.org/?p=39
Obviously I have them on my desktop, on the local drive, so I just
need to copy this in the right place and tell OsmAnd I want them.

My web provider tells me I have illimited bandwidth, I would like to
give it a try and offer my tiles to anybody who needs them.

I received a hint as well directly on my blog, at this page:
http://www.outdoormaps.org/?p=194

Cheers,
Mayeul
