Searching for a hike

Using OsmAnd+ 2.3.5

I consider myself a power user with OsmAnd, using it both for hiking navigation and OSM mapping, I need help with supposedly simple operation:

How do I search for a nearest foot or bike trail?  I see a category "Hike Piste", but it seems to be finding only trails that are marked with skiing related tags.

Also, it would be nice if I could copy OsmAnd settings files on a computer, backup it between phone upgrades, touch up saved searches.

a hiking trail is not something that is considered a point of interest in the database... a hiking trail is just another highway (for pedestrians) as far as the database is concerned
you might try looking for Sightseeing POIs, but I have always just looked for the red dashed lines indicating on the basic map interface
also take a look at the new Strava heatmap overlays (especially the red one).. you might need some google-fu but it may be just what you are seeking

OsmAnd can separately highlight long distance local and regional hiking trails. Of course this doesn't include all hiking trails but it is still very useful.

Put OsmAnd into pedestrian mode and then:

1. Select "Configure map".
2. Scroll down to "Other map attributes".
3. Tap "Hiking symbol overlay" and then select "Colouring according to OSMC".

Trails will now be highlighted, with names shown too usually.
