S pozdravom,
Priscilla - TomTom

Hey everyone,

I'd like to share a new Maproulette challenge in Latvia:  Slovakia - Missing Railway Level Crossing  - 77 tasks.

It aims to improve road safety by adding missing railway crossings, where needed, at intersections between major roads and train/tram tracks.

Most tasks are located in Bratislava and relate to situations where tram tracks cross roads. As there is still ongoing discussion within the OSM community around the tagging of tram crossings, we'd especially appreciate feedback from local mappers and follow local community consensus for these cases.

If the community feels that tram crossing cases should be handled differently or excluded from the challenge, we're happy to refine the scope accordingly.

Thanks for your help and feedback! 🙌

Best,
Priscilla - TomTom

Hi, we do not map tram level crossings as railway=level_crossing because there are different rules/penalties when a car crosses tram tracks in the city.

We either do not tag the shared node where tram and road crosses, or we use railway=tram_level_crossing and railway=tram_crossing for footway/tram crossings.

Hi, Thanks for your clarifications. For your information, the process filters out footways to focus on drivable roads (and it also filters out cases where drivable roads and railway/tram tracks are on different levels meaning there is a bridge or tunnel at the crossing).
I'll refine the instructions for this challenge in Slovakia so that:
  • If a tag to be added to a shared node between tram track and road on the same level, the tag railway=tram_level_crossing would be added
  • If a tag to be added to a shared node between railway track and road on the same level, the tag railway=tram_level_crossing would be added
However, either a railway or tram track is disused, we would use disused:railway=level_crossing, is that correct?

Thank you !
