Hello OSM Slovakia,

I would like to announce a new MapRoulette challenge: Slovakia - Fix Spiky Buildings (MapRoulette). We’ve identified buildings on OpenStreetMap (OSM) with oddly sharp angles. Most building corners are close to 90 degrees, but this challenge focuses on buildings where angles are less than 15 degrees. While some might be real, many are likely incorrect data.
 The Task:
Improve OSM data quality by reviewing the identified buildings and see if their shapes need correction.
 Important Considerations:
-Some buildings, especially historical ones, may have unique angles.
-If unsure, consult the community forum for guidance.-
The task will lead you to the building itself, not necessarily to the specific “spiky” node. Please zoom in carefully and search for the issue.

Why Fix Spiky Buildings?
Accurate building shapes on OSM benefit everyone! They improve:
-Data quality for various applications
-Navigation services
-Urban planning
-Emergency response

Have Questions?
Feel free to reply to this message for help, modifying instructions, or suggestions on resources.

Thank you,

Best,
 Salim

Hi, thank you for the interest in fixing up errors in OSM.

But as usual, please make sure the tasks are fixed by experienced mappers, that know what they are doing. They must not just make any change to make MapRoulette happy. They must use good sources like Ortofotomozaika SR or cadastre layer (available to be added into JOSM and iD editors), not some random fuzzy imagery. If in doubt, they must visit the place, or leave the object alone.

Thanks.

Thank you! Finally, this is getting into MapRoulette. About eleven years ago, I created something similar to help detect spiky buildings, unfortunately, it never had enough exposure to be used by many people (and I myself had only so much energy and eventually stopped).

These spiky buildings usually come from data imported from the cadastre, where if a building sits on top of multiple land parcels, it is split by the parcel boundaries. Sometimes, the building is missing a part (e.g. a roof or something) because that data is not in the cadastre. Unfortunately, nobody validated the data during the import, and now even decades after that we still have the incorrect data.

I hope that this quest being in MapRoulette can help us finally get rid of these data irregularities.

Sometimes it is hard to figure out, which buiding have problem.
Like in task https://maproulette.org/challenge/45169/task/227576182 there are 2 buildings nearby each other.

It would be great if it is possible, if the pin will point to the problematic node.

This is what I mean:

Some user generating thousands of changesets all over the world, in this case referencing exactly your Maproulette task of "spiky" buildings, claiming source=knowledge (it seems he knows many buildings in the world from memory) and doing it wrong, where a local user had to revert it.
Many of these Maproulette tasks are NOT for casual users to mass-fix in a random way.

Good morning Aceman444.

Is there any recommendation from your side for us?
