Anthonyfish46 has recently been deleting well-drawn buildings with shop and address tags and replacing them with non-square versions tagged only with building=yes, often sharing nodes with random nearby elements. These edits have been titled "added footprints" and I think they should all be reverted. Any thoughts?

See for example:

Hi cowdog - thanks for this message. I was just noticing this today too, and yeah, it does seem like someone should reach out to Anthonyfish46 and clarify that attributes are getting lost. I don't mind doing that if no one else has yet.

Looking at his history, he seems to just be adding poorly shaped buildings randomly all over the country.

I’d have no qualms about reverting those changes.

With that many edits, it will take some effort to figure out which ones were destructive and which ones weren't.

Madeline, if you want to send him a message I'd say go for it.

Hi all - I sent Anthonyfish46 the following message yesterday. I haven't had a response yet. If I don't hear anything in a week or so, I'm ok with reverting the changesets too.

-Madeline

Hello Anthonyfish26,

So, a few of us in the Portland OSM community have noticed the building footprints you've been adding, and we wanted to reach out to you about a couple of things.

First and foremost, we see you've been deleting existing versions of the buildings as a part of your process (example here:http://nrenner.github.io/achavi/?changeset=42977345). This wouldn't necessarily be a problem, except that not all of the attributes of the old buildings are being copied to the new buildings. In the example above, the old building had address and height data that was lost. This information is valuable to many members of the OSM community, and if you are going to replace buildings, please copy all the old tags to the new version. Are you working in JOSM? If so, there are keyboard shortcuts that make this easy (select the old building, hit Ctrl + C, then select the new building and click Shift + Ctrl+ V to copy over the tags only).

Also, one user noticed that the new buildings you're drawing haven't been orthagonalized. In JOSM, this is easy to do with the keyboard shortcut, "Q."

Please let me know if these concerns make sense. I am sorry to be critical - I really do appreciate the spirit behind the edits.

Finally, I encourage you to join the local OSM user google group, here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/osm-pdx

Thanks much,

Madeline

Hi all,

Well, it's been a week since I contacted Anthonyfish46 and I haven't had a replay, nor does it look like he's made corrections or reversions himself. If someone wants to use the change set reverter on those footprint updates, I say go for it.

Thanks,

Madeline

I have reverted all of the Portland area edits made by Anthonyfish46 that involved deleting nodes or attributes.  Other cities are affected too, however.
