Hi all,
I am reaching out to this group to see if there is interest in leading small group case discussions for taking a sexual history. The students in this class have just finished their pre-clinical coursework and will soon be entering clerkships. The session will be held on Friday, April 10th from 4:10 to 5:20pm in Li Ka Shing room 101/102.
Prior to this session, the students will have learned to take a basic sexual history through their Practice of Medicine course. We will be building on the basic sexual history with more advanced topics. The cases we have prepared will cover topics of sexual history in gender and sexual minorities, discussions around fertility, kink practices, and screening for intimate partner violence. I have attached the preceptor guide for you to look at if you would like.
In the session I will give a brief review of the topics covered in the sexual history, but the majority of the session will be spent going through the four cases. Our goal is to help students develop comfort with the language around taking a sexual history rather focusing on specific clinical aspects (ie which STI screening test should be ordered, ect). At the end of the session, we will go over the cases as a large group.
If you are willing and able to participate, please let me know - we would love to have you! It is a large group of students (usually around 100), so the more preceptors, the merrier!
Take care,
Meg
