Five weeks ago my book History, Disrupted: How Social Media and the World Wide Web Have Changed the Past became available for pre-order—and what a five weeks it has been. With your support, History, Disrupted continues to be a #1 new release on Amazon in four categories: Media Studies, History, Sociology and Library Sciences. Working on the book, I never envisioned it could be a best-seller; I was told by several literary agents the book would be of limited interest. Yet, here we are! We have a legitimate shot to reach the best-seller lists and show the world (and those literary agents) that people care about history, particularly historical information and misinformation online and how it affects our society. So, please keep those pre-orders coming—and please share the book with your friends, colleagues, neighbors, students and family. One friend of History Club ordered a copy of the book for her grandson. Another friend of History Club ordered two copies: one for him and one for his son. The intergenerational sharing warms my heart. It makes a great holiday gift for the history lover in your life! Update on publication: The book was scheduled to be published this week, however, there were some final edits that needed to be made: commas to insert, surnames to check, fixes to several footnotes, etc. As such, the publication date will be mid/late December. For those who’ve pre-ordered on Amazon, you should receive your book by the end of the year. Barnes & Noble will ship in early January, and independent bookstores are shipping later in January. Luckily, the book’s ideas are not fading anytime soon; if anything they are growing more pressing as social media dominates public conversation and misinformation and disinformation swirl online. This momentum will carry us into the New Year. But, why wait until the New Year to talk about it? We’re kicking off these important conversations this week with a weeklong book-hype tour on Clubhouse, featuring some of the platform’s outstanding creators. We’ll talk about different aspects of the book in six different spaces: media, politics, social media, history, activism and the future of civilization. All these subjects are addressed in the book, so this’ll be an intellectually stimulating week with some the brightest minds around. Please join us!
