But it either ends up 1. too thick- where it looks amazingly well detailed and shaded and even, but then parts of it flake off on washing. Or then 2. I thin the plaster a bit more and then it ends up spotty.

I think most of you are struggling with this process which I have found to be very easy. Read my post on the Ron Clarke method and see if you get the same results as I do. Do read all the post as it has had tips and improvements add which now give just about perfect etched tiles with just tap water to clean up. See Below

I will again attest to the value of a bright white light right above the tile when spraying, while also rotating the tile during spraying, if there are any parts that you can see the reflection of the gloss / or the tile is not entirely matte under the light then the layer is too thin. - over the last year or so I have discovered this is primarily controlled by the distance and angle the airbrush is from the workpiece.

I use that fairly often for painting.
Essentially it is used to reduce the viscosity of latex (better for spraying) and to reduce the surface tension.
It will not really dry as-is and should only be used as an additive, but it is an intriguing idea!

My second try was 0.5% xanthan/0.5% glycerol/10% TiO2. This worked a lot better but still was grayish, especially if the coating was thin. Could be the problem was just too little TiO2. But note that glycerol is hygroscopic so could be it interfered with the burn by tying too much water into the mix.

White Tile with White Grout: The ever-popular combo that may seem boring when we type it out, but in reality is classic, timeless and gives any room a clean updated look. Among the most popular options in the white tile category we have the subway tile. This has been the go-to tile for DIY home renovations (and Starbucks locations) for quite some time and for a good reason. It is classic, very affordable, and is something that will never go out of style. As you can see, white with white looks great here, and gives the kitchen a clean and simple look.

But what happens when we mix it up and put some black grout in between those simple tiles? This kitchen above went with the traditional subway tile, but paired it with a black grout. Which to be honest I am usually not a fan of unless it is done very well (like this version) and the rest of the space stays pretty neutral. Doing this to your tile will accentuate the grout which in turn makes the entire kitchen appear busier and less calming, but it does give it that vintage industrial look if that is what you are going for. The bathroom below is another prime example of that.

This bathroom went with a black on black scheme on the walls and it really works. They complimented it (and lightened it up) with a white and light wood vanity which helps both tiles and patterns work well together as the grout is not competing with the tile, but just adding texture and depth to it.

Now when you go with a black tile and a white grout you are going to see that visually (like with white tile and black grout) things start looking a bit busier and you do make out the shapes of the tiles more so than you would if it was all tonal. Still, a very pretty look which we love.

Let us know if you have any questions below, and if you have found any inspiration photos that exemplify these different combos that we may have not seen be sure to leave the link to them below in the comments.

Thanks for publishing this! I have been trying to decide on tile/grout for my home. I recall that once Martha Stewart Living Magazine suggested gray grout with white tile for a more contemporary version of the cream/brown, but not so harsh as black. Have you seen/liked gray grout with white tile? Thanks!

That being said EPOXY grout can solve your dirty white grout issues. It has epoxy in the grout mixture which keeps the grout from soaking in the dirt etc, making much easier to clean. Epoxy grout is our go to when we do white grout in commercial applications, which get WAY more use than your average home tiled area.

Hey Andrea! So just to clarify:
Main cabinet/counter- dark gray counter with white cabinet.
Island cabinet/counter- white granite with navy cabinet
Light gray backsplash (subway tile?)
What material are your gray counters made of?
And your question is what color your grout should be?

I went with a light grey. In my bathroom I chose marble penny hex tile. The white was too stark for my taste. The grey blends seamlessly. In the bathtub I continued with the same light grey grout with white subway tile. I do love the slight contrast, but would have been happy with white/white too. Since I did an inset cubby with the same penny hex- the grey seemed like the best option.

Yay for a whole post about grout! Can we get a followup with unusual colors, different thicknesses and Schluter? With all the cool tile shapes out there right now I feel like the grout joint is having a moment.

The discolored and dirt-stained grout in the tile floor of our foyer looked super old and gross, but after trying nearly a dozen cleaners and cleaning tricks we nearly gave up. Then we finally find THE SOLUTION to making the grout look white and clean again!

The downside to this solution is that it can be time intensive (and patience testing) depending on the size of your surface. For this floor, it took nearly eight hours to apply. But since I had easily spent 25 hours trying various stain lifting methods before resorting to this, well, eight hours with a bottle of Grout Renew was a small price to pay for VICTORY.

The instructions suggested using an old toothbrush to apply the GroutRenew it into the grout lines and then let it dry for 24 hours. I went with a thin craft brush instead because I had way more control (read: way less mess on the tile surface). The thin paint brush was also easy to dip directly into the bottle when I needed to load up with paint.

The second day was the hardest day by far, just because I was still kind of sore from contorting my pregnant body around in the small half bathroom the day before, and the little knobby parts of each of my ankles were dragging on the tile as I scooted around like a dog with fleas, but it was all worth it. Worth it and then some!

Needless to see, that looks amazing. You almost make me wish I had dirty grout so I could see such a transformation. We do have dingy linoleum, so maybe someone out there will suggest an awesome way to fix both your kitchen and mine.

Yes! Awesome! I used this product in our kitchen and second bath and it made a huuuuuuge difference! Glad you decided to give it a try! I went fron wanting to rip out all the tile in my house to being very, very okay with what we had.

My parents had a tile floor in just the hallway from the front door all the way to the back of the house. All the rooms that opened up off the hallway (kitchen, dining, fancy sitting room, and family room) had hardwood flooring that ran into the tile floor in the hallway.

When we cleaned ours post-Grout Renew I used our regular floor cleaner (a mild eco-friendly soap) our our steam mop-neither have caused any issues. I also occasionally use a spray bottle with vinegar/water or even Method spray cleaner to wipe up spills with no issues at all.

Oh no! Did you use a credit card to sort of jam them in there and try to get it smooth? That sounds strange- maybe there was some film around the edges of those windows that kept it from sticking? Like some residue from paint or cleaning product?

Wow! The tile looks so much less blue with this new grout color (in a GOOD way)! I actually never liked this tile until these pictures, but now it actually looks like a neutral. :) Hooray for cheap fixes!

That looks amazeballs. Brighter and higher contrast, yes, but it goes with the new tuxedo look in the kitchen. I would have a hard time giving that floor up. Could you find the same tile and take it into the kitchen like your neighbor?

I waged that very slow battle with grout renew about a year ago in several parts of our house. It definitely has a learning curve to it (especially with thinner grout where it inevitably gets on the tile).

Thank you for this post, because my bathroom tile is in dire need of this! I also LOVE that foyer mirror. Would you mind providing the source? I have this thing for round mirrors. And would love to find out more about that one!:) Thanks!

I have a cat who tends to have a sensitive stomach and sometimes vomits up food or hairballs. I wanted to be sure that this would not penetrate through to the slate or grout. Yes, it is time consuming, but the results are definitely worth it.

I think I have the same light beige/off white tile with dirty looking grout! I picked up a bottle in the snow white color yesterday and am planning on doing it this weekend too. Fingers crossed for us both! :)

Hi, so sorry if this question was maybe already posted here, but I couldn`t really find a solution or a thread with the exact same question (I tried and looked through qupath and online for 2-3 hours).

Not exactly sure what you have tried, but were you using the tile exporter with
_images.html#tile-exporter
annotatedTilesOnly(false) // If true, only export tiles if there is a (classified) annotation present
set to true?
Note that if you want to export tumor tiles this way, you would need to have only the tumor class annotations present. Also, how it works is a little tricky and may require downstream cleanup, see:

Thanks for your reply! - I already tried this and also with annotatedTilesOnly(true). It works, but using this I still have healthy tissue around my annotations, that I try to avoid, if possible. And yes, I definitely - as the other person mentioned in the post you added - have afterwards still many tiles that are pretty much only white.

The game's mechanics are simple: the tiles will fly across the screen and the goal of the players is to tap on all of the black ones without hitting a single white one (and most of the tiles are white). If you tap a white tile, the game will be over right away.
