Hi,

... I have attached one png image to the placenode,however the image has a white background ,is it possible to make the backgound transparent?

What do you mean by transparent in this context? Do you want an alpha
blended object overlaying other objects in your scene or could you
even mean something OS specific like having a window blend with the
desktop?

I do not see the attachment. However, the PNG format can store
4-channel images (RGB plus alpha). I make these all the time with
Gimp. You'll need to investigate how to create these with whatever
image manipulation program you are using.

It sounds like you will need a better image manipulation program. Here are some you can get for free:

In these programs they should have an option to set the background as transparent, here are some tutorial links:

After the PNG file has the correct transparency set, it should work fine in OSG.
