The Occupy National Gathering 2013 planning group had their launch call March 20, and the planning is in full swing. We then attended the Via22 call March 22, building the global conversation that has already begun with Via22 in Solidarity with us and us with them and their endeavors. In May 2012, Chicago police arrested 5 anti-NATO activists and charged them with terrorism. They remain in jail. As the one-year anniversary of these politically motivated arrests draws near, the NATO 5 Defense Committee calls for a week of solidarity actions and fundraisers. May 16-21 will be a week of solidarity during which activists are encouraged to raise funds to support the legal defense of the NATO 5.
Occupy Kalamazoo proposes 'a National Gathering of the Occupy Movement, and peoples’ movements worldwide, in Kalamazoo Michigan, to collectively assemble and embrace our different ideologies and perspectives; to find our common visions; to share our strategies and actions; and to leave this gathering with steps we can all take in both agreement and diversity; for ourselves, our communities, our nations, and for all of us all over the world." Occupy Kalamazoo seeks general ratification from Occupy assemblies, working groups and affinity groups worldwide.
On Tuesday, March 19, the judge in the NATO 5 case heard the oral arguments on the defense motion to dismiss the terrorism charges as unconstitutional. The arguments presented in the hearing are briefly presented in this article. The judge is expected to rule on the constitutionality challenge on Wednesday, March 27.
