FROM OSDD FAMILY

Congratulations Srivari for winning the 2014 Prize in Physical Sciences. Your work was impressive not only in the breadth of chemistry it covered but also for its impact on society. In fact your approach of concept to commercialization or ‘bench to bed’ is truly unique for academic scientists in the Indian context. Not only has your work had important ramifications in chemistry but it will affect branches of society such as drugs and pharmaceuticals; agro chemicals and materials. Congratulations again.
Bio
Professor Srivari Chandrasekhar did his bachelor’s (1982) and master’s degrees (1985) from Osmania University with distinction. He then joined Dr. A. V. Rama Rao's group at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad, and completed his doctorate in 1991 from Osmania University. He carried out postdoctoral research at Southwest Medical Centre, USA, with Prof. J. R. Falck, working on total synthesis of diterpenoid stypoldione and reductive alkylations of bisphenyl sulfones. At the University of Gottingen as Humboldt Fellow with Professor L. F. Tietze, he worked on the synthesis of hybrid natural products.
