Opportunities to Advocate for Local Gardening and Urban Agriculture
1) Gardening at Schools
Next week, the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) and Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) School Boards will hear action items on the development of community gardens on school district property.
San Diego Unified School District Meeting
Tuesday, January 24, 5pm

4100 Normal Street (University Heights), San Diego, 92103The SDUSD School Board will hear Board Resolution H-6 to determine whether to explore the development of community gardens on school district property. This resolution will impact whether the school-community garden pilot projects at Montgomery Middle School (in partnership with Bayside Community Center) and Springall Academy (in partnership with San Carlos United Methodist) can continue to plan for the establishment of a school-community garden on district property.
Grossmont Union High School District Meeting
Thursday, January 26, 4pm
East County Regional Education Center
924 East Main Street, El Cajon, 92020The GUHSD School Board will vote on whether to pass a joint use agreement with the City of La Mesa to establish a community garden at the site of Helix Charter High School.
2) The San Diego City Urban Agricuture Ordinance

Downtown San Diego 92101The San Diego City Council will be discussing changing the city's urban plan with a complete update of city ordinances about urban agriculture, including bees, community gardens, goats and farmer's markets. The fine folks at the 1-in-10 Coalition have been working tirelessly in drafting and guiding these vital policy changes through the cogs of govenrment.

If you feel that growing food within city limits is important, then it's vital that you come support these changes and show our city leaders that this is good our our community's health.
Please pass these important dates on to those interested in community gardens and urban agriculture.
Jimbo's... Naturally Supports SD Roots
"It's in the Bag" program raises funds one nickel at a time
When you bring in your own shopping bags, be they cloth, reused paper or plastic bags, you are eligible to participate in Jimbo's "It's in the Bag" program. This program has been set up to help promote the recycling of shopping bags, reward those customers that reuse their bags, and pass the money saved on grocery bags to local charitable organizations. It's a win for everyone!
Now through March 31 you can choose to send that nickel to San Diego Roots.
