I saw Darinel at the Garden on Tuesday and we talked about holding a
garden committee meeting to discuss Permaculture. How about next
weekend? Would Sunday Jan 15th be good for everyone? If so, let's
start putting the word out!

If you have not been to Occupy's City College space, then check out
the video posted for a general look at what we've got going on. It's
on the blog. http://occupysdgardens.blogspot.com/ We're growing and
growing, and we've got room to grow.

Some projects on the to-do list:

50 gallon solar powered compost tea brewer
Small Greenhouse/Nursery/Seedstarter
Organized Mobile Garden Work Crews (possibly for hire/barter?)

The days are getting longer! Spring is on it's way

January 15th at what time? It might be feasible, but a better date for me is Friday (or most any other day of the week), but it might be workable if it's later, and not earlier, in the day (after 3:00 PM).

While the video is much more comprehensive, I'd sill like to know exactly how much garden space we have available (complete area size). It looks like we have a lot of compost, though, which is very good. It also answered what kinds of plants we have growing, which is helpful. I have been able to asnwer most of the questions I asked with the help of that video, which is great, and I'm sure if a meeting occurs, I can get the remaining bits of information.

It would be very awesome if we got some master gardeners in on here for a teach in! Just one or two would be a wealth of information.

I just want to say though, that as far as I understand it, making a bunch of separate beds like I see already is not good permaculture--filling the whole area with plant-life (but not chaotically, with a strategy) like a ground cover, then planting groups of plants in large forms that have qualities that benefit each other (such as, an outside perimeter of sunflowers and wildflowers for pollinator attraction and the attraction of pests away from the interior, and to focus on the exterior sunflowers, also attracting beneficial predator insects in that stead) would be important, but understandably, the exact way and benefits need tot be discussed and understood. Hence the meeting!

Here's what I have so far:

Area size: Unknown
Size of compost: Unknown, but from video, presumed ~60lbs +/- 30lbs
What plants specifically we have: Brocoli, Cilantro, Beans (unknown variety), Lettuce (unknown variety) Tomatillos, Radishes, Onions "Mixed greens" (unknown varieties)
Space used approx: unknown, until we know total space allowed.
Space left approx: unknown, until we know total space allowed.
Notable surrounding features: Flanked by a hill, with a large (possibly willow) tree that provide much shade.
