trapcov value is NA for non operating traps

Dear all,

I would like to include a covariate on detection like the distance covered within a cell or the speed while travelling through the cell (cell = trap in my case).
 
When the trap is not operating at occasion k (the cell has not been visited), I first coded  'NA" for distance.k or speed.k but 
oSCR fit return an  Error in dm.trap[[s]][[k]] %*% c(t.beta[s, ]) : non-conformable arguments

How to handlle this issue ? 

I replaced NA by 0, knowing that I scaled the trapcov, so 0 is the mean distance or speed. 
The model is now running, but is there any consequences of doing that ? Other ideas ?
