Hi there folks,

So... money stuff is a bit harder this year, have been trying to think of how I can help.
I know on a pure efficiency level, nothing can beat a few $10,000 sponsorships, but I am quite bad at asking for money in that way (though I bow down to those who can!).

So I've thought of this idea that I can help with: Celebrity Playlists. You know how itunes always has different celebrities talk about what's on their ipod? (or usually their assistant's ipod). (Looking around nervously, we all read Buzzfeed, right? I was told this was a safe place!)

If you'd like to see an example of a celebrity playlist, Drew Barrymore's playlist, is here. (free spirit alert.)

  Celebrity Playlists, OSBridge edition:

We feature on the osbridge website between thanksgiving and Christmas, "celebrity playlists." But instead of celebrities, geeks of note, and instead of itunes songs, their fave books/ music. (mostly books and music. But i'm not gonna kick anything with an Amazon affiliate link outta bed.)

Anyway, I don't need anybody's help with this really, though here are some places could help out with, if compelled:

* connections. If you know a tech/business/community "of note" who you think would give good copy, then great.
* design. We don't need full page design here. But i'd like to ornament the posts with a few Perez-ish assets. Thinking like this: omg.yahoo.com.

thanks twitches,
andy

Suggestions off the top of my head:
@funkatron
@janl
@brianaker
@emmajanedotnet
@br3nda (death metal, ftw)
@stewartsmith
@e_monty

And I'd do one.

Can think more about it over the next couple of weeks.

Sweet idea :)

Hi there Sheeri,

Like iTunes Celebrity Playlists, if anybody chooses to buy any of the items in the geeks' lists, it's an affiliate transaction we get a cut of.  Amazon is the most well known affiliate system and the one that will be my default, but pretty much anything is affiliate-able.

You can do this via plain old hot links on one's own website, or you can customize a page on Amazon's site (really great example: http://astore.amazon.com/daringfirebal-20 )

That said, this is also a small marketing campaign, money aside, as it's likely each of the geeks will link/tweet to their feature on opensourcebridge.org.

Powells also has affiliate links - I just signed up for them recently but I've been an Amazon affiliate for years - maybe longer than I've been using Linux!
