to OSAKIS SILVERSTREAKS
Is everyone ready for friday night ? The noise ,the crowd, the
popcorn, pizza meeting with friends and of course the mighty Osakis
Silverstreaks. Yes this friday night may be the biggest game thus far
as the streaks match up against arch rivals the Browerville tigers .
Browerville whom dropped OTC 19-0 last week will be coming into Osakis
to meet a team that should be 2-1 and whom dropped their opening game
in OTC 6-20. Osakis seems like a team that is starting to gain some
focus and determination as they roll off of their defeat of a fairly
good Parkers team . The Streaks showed some great defensive stops ,and
did a fine job of containing the parkers offense. the Streaks also
were finally able to kick up some turf on the offensive side as well
as their running game finally found some holes and the passing game
was right on track . The big queston is can the streaks ride this
momentum onto the field friday night against Browerville and stuff the
Tigers .
It will all boil down to how well the defense can stop that option and
quarter back keeper plays of Browerville . Can they get to the
ball .Browerville does a great job of ball control ,and is really
crafty in their handoffs ,gererally making it tough for opposing teams
to spot and pickup on the ball movement .. Advantage here goes to
Osakia as the visiting Tigers will be sporting their lighter colored
away jerseys hopefully making iut harder to conceal the ball. Sure
maybe that is pointless the uniform color etc , but any little bit of
an advantage can;t hurt , and i would rather play them in light
Jerseys than their home dark colors. In photographic terms the
contrast of dark football and light uniforms should make a slight
difference in Osakis favor...Then throug in the Osakis passing game it
is been their bright spot thus far this year , if Laven can keep
finding targets ,this massive line shoudl by him the time he needs to
get the ball smoothly way down field ,breaking the tiger secondary
into single coverage ,and with the good hands of his reciver targets
Guyette and Waldvogel this should make for some exciting gains in real
estate and possible pay days if exploited. Both Waldvogel and Guyette
as well as a few others offer some good handed targets to toss to. Now
inorder to get all that going the Streaks will have to dominate up
front ,control that D LINE and make those guys come around ,creating
some holes for those small but speedy Osakis backs . The first two
games saw the Osakis backs get stymied play after play right at or
near the line , not allowing them to get off the blocks and run ,and
its this fans opinion these boys can fly.
All they need is to see some light. To do this if the guys up front
are having trouble as the box fills in with L backers and D line men ,
making the holes smaller , they should look to spread it
out ,qaurterback keeper to the outside line , then run a pitch option
to a sweeping back ,sue the other back to block and the QB as well to
block . Once that Osakis back hits the open sideline .see ya .... And
it doesn;t matter who carry's the pig these boys can all run., You
have some fleet athletes here , you have Charlie Jennings , Jesse
Becerra , and of course the work horse thus far Chris ludwig , then
toss in a Wendell Larson and these boys are going bring it 2 for
speed ,2 to make you rememeber where your jock strap is as they knock
it right up in your face poundijng through you ,over you around you ,
just bringing it ... You spring a few of these bombs on the opposing
team's D and they are going to be guessing the whole game are they
going inside , outside , are they going to bomb , side line pass , as
all weapons will be blazing .. Sure there is a downside to running
that option pitch to the outside , there always is , you may fumble it
a time or two , but would the reward out weigh the chance ? I think so
i think thus far its been this lack of an outside running threat that
has hampered and weighed this offensive machine down a bit ... When
you have the horses why walk? When you can ride baby , ride ...and
Osakis has these horses , they have the fleet and fast throughbreds in
the backfield and the big work horses up front ..i mean it pound for
pound this has to be one of the strongest lines i have seen in a
while... But they have been walking ,and getting sidetracked along the
way... Time to saddle up and ride boys ride, sweep left , sweep
right , qaurterback fake handoff to Chris who bounds outside the
tackle throughs a block and let Laven run towards the side line ,then
pitch it back to a super charged Kentucky derbey runner , Charlie or
Jesse and watch them boys go , all you'll see is smoke , because when
a canon fires thats all you see is smoke and gone...This will free up
everything else making the D have to respect and play you down for
down , not knowing where you are going . They can;t just stack the
middle or play the box , they have to now spread out and i think thats
where the streak gang will win out .

Now on to defense , all i can say is tackle hard, grab on don;t let
go ,hit at the waist aim for the belt and...watch the qaurter back
watch wear his waste goes ,then watch the back see where his waste is
going , they are quick with the handoffs and very good at covering the
ball ...Keep them in the middle, Lbackers have to fill the gaps and
make the tackles these guys can spring free and do a lot of leg
shifting ... against Kms it appeared and maybe i am wrong ,but there
appeared to be oppurtunities to blitz in that game and put pressure on
the qaurterback ,not allowing him as much freedom to play make. i saw
some big holes off the tackle where a quick blitzing back could have
hit paydirt a time or two , or a blitzing corner could have kept the
back in the box and not allowed him to spring out , being careful not
to over pursue allowing him to get behind you though as his speed it
would be a see you moment .. but a blitzing wendell larson would have
reaked havoc and wrung some bells on the qaurterback and he would have
heard footsteps in his head rest of the game. What did we have to
lose.

But hold on streaker fans its early yet ,its only week four and Pat
and company have a lot of tricks a coming. Everyone is tsill learning
and feeling each other out , but rest assurred this looks to be a team
that stays healthy will be one to reckon with come play off time ..
They get clicking and look out like i said earlier ,Pat ,Bill and Stan
have a barn full of horses here , and when they are let loose look
out, all i can think is VICTORY ...
anyhow without a doubt these kids have one awesome group of mentors
here and will take much away from this season no matter how the
outcome , so hold on for the ride because the train is picking up
pace , next stop Browerville...

My prediction is if the Streaks can stop or at least slow down the
option play and get good d line play up front getting good hands on
those tiger backs and we make tackles , and can get a bit of an
outside running game to go with our already good passing game , it
will open up some holes off tackle and make it more of a one on one
match up inside , then i like the osakis odds . Keep the ball ,keep
mistakes to a minimum ,fumbles, interceptions drop punts and over
shoots and streaks win 20-16 .
if they can continue moving like they did last week 20-16 osakis all
the way.... Good luck boys , GET R DONE !
