SOAR is the first of two mandatory orientation programs for all new students to help make your experience at Hamline exceptional. Fall orientation is the second mandatory orientation for all new students. During this program, you'll meet with your academic advisor, attend your first first-year seminar class, and learn about the opportunities and support available for you on campus.

Each summer, CTY On-Campus Programs bring together students from around the world to live, learn, and connect in a diverse campus environment. Advanced learners can explore new and favorite subjects, participate in hands-on activities, and forge lasting friendships.
Our courses are designed to encourage collaboration and engagement on challenging topics, ensuring a summer filled with fun and discovery. Hosted at colleges and schools around the U.S., CTY summer programs offer students the flexibility to commute to day programs or join other young scholars in our immersive, three-week residential programs, available June through August.

Couloir Jensen, who has extensive teaching experience, is also a parent of a preschooler. She knows the uncertainty of what traditional school will look like during this pandemic. She wants to help provide direction and support for families. She is certified to teach early childhood and elementary education.
She has always loved the enthusiasm and joy young children bring to their learning. Couloir has worked in private preschools, public schools, as a kindergarten teacher and special-ed learning specialist. In all of her roles she has created her own curriculum and used a variety of resources. She has piloted and tested her curriculum for school districts. She is excited to support parents and children as we explore learning together!

We will look ahead in learning goals to prepare your child for elementary school. Monthly curriculum themes vary with topics of interest to young children and the seasons.
* Your child will receive a monthly subscription "Wonder Box" filled with a book, craft materials and learning manipulatives. Your child will be excited to receive a new box each month. Other manipulatives and materials needed are household or outdoor items you will use to grow the inquiring mind of your young child.
* Join us for a weekly online story time that follows along with the curriculum. We will read a story together, sing songs, finger plays and learn together. Your child will make friends and be excited about socializing in the group.

The Adult Focus Learning Community is designed for students 23 years old or older and provides support services for individuals who may assume multiple life roles such as a parent, spouse/partner, employee, caregiver, etc.
The Akron Rises Learning Community provides new students the opportunity to get connected with faculty, staff and fellow students early on in their Akron Experience. The community is designed to provide support for Akron Rises students and assist in getting them connected to The University of Akron community. Students may have the opportunity (based on testing and course availability) to enroll in a Basic Math or Basic Writing course with their peers from Akron Experience.
The Office of Academic and Retention Support (OARS) Collegiate Success Learning Community is for students who want an opportunity to participate in a retention-based community and are a member of Choose Ohio First Summer Bridge. Each student is assigned a peer mentor and a professional staff coordinator. The community is focused on helping incoming students develop and grow into scholars by helping them enhance their academic skills and facilitating engagement with the university community.
The Emerging Leaders Program creates an opportunity for first-year students to become actively engaged in the campus community through leadership development, civic engagement and self-discovery. It is through academic achievement, mentoring and co-curricular involvement that students experience a holistic approach to college life and later as civic leaders in society.
