Hi all,

I'd like to take the opportunity to take stock of the project's training offer so far and garner what you'd like to see more of in the future.

Over the last year, we have brought you courses for:

GIMP, an Open Source Photoshop replacement (Introduction);
Wordpress, two courses (for users and for designers/content management);
Android, Google's mobile phone platform (beginner and advanced);
Red Hat (through the RHA certifications and directly with Red Hat);
Apache Web Server (Administration);
Linux Operating System, (Introduction);
Moving your business to the Google cloud;
Ingres Open Source Enterprise Database (Intro and Mangement);
Agile Project Management Methods (Intro and Technical Aspects);
Magento e-commerce course for Shop Owners (Managing your store);
Going Open, "a map through the minefield" for businesses looking to develop their products in the Open Source world;

As you can see, there is a fairly wide range of subjects covered and some of these are best suited for delivery under consultancy and others are more suited to publically offered short courses.
Also, these courses have interested people in Sweden, Denmark and people have actually travelled from from all over the UK and as far afield as Italy to attend our courses for the full cost.

Some topics I've been looking at, in response to discussions with industry players, are: JBoss, Sun Microsystems, Ubuntu, Talend, Using Amazon Web Services to deploy Open Source Applications, C++ and Java.

I'd be grateful for your thoughts around this summary and what other courses would help your business make the most of funding offer.

Kind regards

Geoff Gifford

Hi Geoff

I found the open source day i recently attended really helpful. I would be really interested in learning more about administering the lamp stack we use at work and get a basic grounding in php and mysql in particular. I would also be intrested in knowing more about drupal and specifically civicrm we use.

Thanks

Chris

Just a note to say that your list of potential new courses looks very interesting

Three comments

a)       Amazon web services – that should be of value across the region

b)       Sun – presumably that includes their Java cert and MySQL offering, as well as OS stuff

c)       C++ seems a bit off model for the OS4B mission

Hiya,

Of interest to me would be a higher level MySQL course: query optimisation, load-balancing etc.

Also creating highly available clusters in linux: Heart Beat, iSCSI, OpenFile etc.

Many thanks,

dan
