AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting software application by Autodesk. The first release of the software started with version 1.0 in December 1982.[1] The software has been continuously updated since its initial release.
AutoCAD opens documents with DWG compatibility as a "DWG file format version code" where the specific version code can be found by opening the .dwg file in Windows Notepad or any text editor program. The file format version code is dependent on the AutoCAD version.[2]
I'm trying to convert a DWG to an older version so that I can access it with AutoCAD for Mac (2017) and of course it's very complicated because TrueView (inexplicably) isn't available for OSX. The common solution found online is to use AutoCAD mobile to upload the dwg and then download it and select a previous version. However, when I use AutoCAD mobile on Chrome there is no option to select other versions on the download screen (see picture). Is there yet another way to accomplish this conversion that doesn't require me to ask a Windows user to convert it or install Bootcamp on my Mac machine?
In the EU it's possible to purchase a pre-owned AutoCAD lincense: you get to thank Brussels for that treat. Just make sure it's legit and you have an opportunity to get your money back since scammers work in mysterious ways everywhere.
if you live anywhere else it's probably a scam plus you won't be able to authorize it with Autodesk either way.
Good luck.
This message indicates that you have proxy objects form AutoCAD Architecture. There is no object enabler to retain these objects in an older version of the drawing. Unless these objects are critical to rain as AutoCAD Architecture entities, then simply exporttoautocad to remove them.
I had a similar issue. We have installed 2018 Architecture but haven't officially switched yet. Drawings are in 2015 Architecture with ACA walls, doors, etc. A user accidentally opened and saved in 2018. Drawing then couldn't be opened in 2015. So he saved it down, but had to save all the way to 2013 (no newer options). Then all the ACA walls and doors disappeared when opened back up in 2015. Doesn't seem right.
When opening either a "saveas" or an "export to autocad" or a conversion using true view version of the drawing, I get the following error in AutoCAD 2016. NO matter how I export or save this drawing I cannot doing anything with it in lower version of CAD.
I must agree with @pendean about your MS Surface Book. I find so many students complain about AutoCAD on their MacBooks because it doesn't look & feel like the PC version. I also have a few students with Surface Books and I always get them going well by tweaking Graphicsconfig in ACAD and geeking with the settings in the "tablet with wheels".
CAD is a hungry beast and it won't be wholly satisfied with running on devices that are meant to be mobile. While slick devices can be beaten into submission I would always advise users to be aware of their needs and be keenly aware of their limitation with their chosen devices.
BTW... I can tell you that I have been happy with many versions of ACAD over the years. It's probably easier to list those which I think were giant "belly flops" (AutoCAD r13 and AutoCAD 2007 were my least favs).
How did you "replace" it? Did you open the file in ACA, make changes, and save it? If so, there may be a BAK file of the old version. If AUTOSAVE was triggered while you were editing the file, you may have an intermediate version (with less to change back), in your Temporary Drawing File Location.
If you had the old version in a folder, and then obtained a new version and copied the new version to that folder, then the old version would be overwritten without creating a BAK file. Whether or not you can retrieve the old version depends on where that folder was, and whether you have any backups of the folder or whether any previous versions were saved by Windows. You could try right clicking on the file in Windows Explorer and choosing Restore previous versions from the context menu. If you are offered previous versions, check the dates and times to see if any could be from before the file was overwritten. If you have any sort of back up/archival program running, you may be able to recover the previous version of the file from the back ups/archives.
Just so I understand, you're looking at the error, which lists 3 options, and saying we should ignore all three of those and instead do this 'export to autocad'? Or are you using different language that actually refers to one of the three options?
Export to AutoCAD is saving the file as AutoCAD-only objects. It explodes all of the AEC Objects, leaving AutoCAD objects that replicate the current display of the AEC Objects. There are different versions of the command to explode and save the file to different file formats. AECEXPORTTOAUTOCAD2013 is the command that will result in a 2013-format file. It is the option I would use if I needed to share a 2018-format ACA file with a consultant looking only for a "plan background" over which to draft the consultant's work.
Create host programs that run your AutoCAD OEM software development platform in a child window, Microsoft Windows .NET Form, or through a web page. The in-place activation control enables your customers to interact with your AutoCAD OEM design software while remaining in the host program or browser.
AutoCAD OEM software development platform tools enable you to brand your OEM-based product with its own name and identity. Using the MakeWizard and OEM InstallerWizard, control the About box image, splash screens, installer banners, and screen characteristics, such as bitmaps and product icons. AutoCAD characteristics can be hidden or displayed prominently, depending on the customer and your product's market requirements.
Customize AutoCAD with OEM technology, which now provides managed wrapper classes that enable you to use the Microsoft .NET Framework and to write programs in other languages, such as Visual Basic .NET and C#. The ObjectARX managed wrapper classes now include sophisticated selection, jig, and prompt support, complete events coverage previously only available to C++ reactors, and an application object model to give you convenient and readily discoverable access to the properties of the application, document, editor, and window objects of AutoCAD. .NET applications can easily create dockable palettes and tool palettes and can extend tabbed dialogs. The geometry library now includes 2D curves, and support for external references has been added.
AutoCAD OEM now supports VBA 7.1 for 64-bit versions. However, the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) engine is no longer provided with your AutoCAD OEM installation media. Please contact your Autodesk ISV partner representative for more information.
Autocad file formats have iterations that increase every 5 years on average now (used to be 3). That means that your consultant may be working with Autocad 2022 but the file version is still Autocad 2018 as it is the default one for 2022. The previous file format is 2013 so ask him to downgrade to that one and it will work.
Trace is a provides a safe space to add changes to a drawing in the web and mobile apps without altering the existing drawing. The analogy is of a virtual collaborative tracing paper that is laid over the drawing that allows collaborators to add feedback on the drawing.
ArcGIS for AutoCAD builds a bridge between CAD and GIS professionals for information sharing and decision-making. The plugin enables direct editing of GIS data and precise geolocation of drawings within AutoCAD. Inform the design process with rich geospatial context and ensure drawings are consumable within ArcGIS. Edits made in ArcGIS are fed back to AutoCAD, enabling both teams to work with the same data synchronously.
