Windows Network Share for Storage

I am new to Orthanc, but have successfully installed and run on Windows7x64 using local storage. I can change storage directory to my NAS (running linux), but cannot seem to get Orthanc to use a windows share on another windows machine (\\shared\Dicom) Have tried using unix style like with my NAS (//shared/Dicom) and combinations of both. Any thoughts? Works fine having index local and storage remote on NAS, but not an option at work. The work shared folder is readily accessible with read/write access. I don't see any ideas in the forum.

Probably a permission problem. 

Does the user that runs the orthanc service have permissions on the share (the local system user)?

Have you tried it with a mapped network drive?

Hello,

You should map your remote storage as a network drive (e.g. as "O:\").

Permissions are fine. I have full read write access as I can create folders and what not. Just can't get it to work. I have also tried mapping it as a drive with a letter, and no luck. On that note, if I use a mapped drive letter even at home it does not work. Any other thoughts?

I have tried map drive as well. No luck. In fact, I can't even get mapped drive to work with Orthanc on my home NAS system. Home system only works with network share notation and only with UNIX slashes.

Are you sure that the options "StorageDirectory" and "IndexDirectory" of your Orthanc configuration file points to, say, "O:/OrthancStorage" ?

If this is the case, your problem is definitely not related to Orthanc, but to a Windows configuration issue.

Not sure what may be happening.  If I use “C:/Temp” it works, but if I use “P:/Temp” it will not work.  Must be some issue with mapped drives in Windows.  Drive is mapped as P:.  Have tried other letters to no avail.  Even using my NAS with mapped drive doesn’t work, but using //server/folder notation works on the NAS, but not to a Windows share.

Too bad.  Seemed like a nice solution for the office as a repository for CDs imported on our laptops with DICOM clients.

Unfortunately, won’t work without being able to use a network share for the storage.

David, if you installed the Orthanc service (i.e. if you don't use the command-line version of Orthanc), there are additional steps to map a network drive so that it is accessible to Windows services. Here is an interesting thread on StackOverflow that summarizes a lot of helpful information:
