Hey guys,

What do you use as a client side DICOM viewer in your hospitals/companies? Trying to find a nice (preferably free) one.

Hello,

The DICOM viewer that is probably the most used by radiologists is OsiriX and its fork Horos:

Both OsiriX and Horos are known to be compatible with Orthanc with respect to DICOM query/retrieve. The free version of OsiriX is limited (e.g. it will not display 3D images with more than 500 slices), but most of those limitations are lifted by Horos. Unfortunately, OsiriX/Horos is only available for Apple OS X. Other cross-platform, free and open-source viewers include:
http://ginkgo-cadx.com/en/ (unfortunately, this software is discontinued)

Personally, when the Web viewer plugin of Orthanc is insufficient for my usage (http://www.orthanc-server.com/static.php?page=web-viewer), I use Ginkgo CADx. For advanced usages (PET-CT fusion for instance), I switch to Slicer.

I will not respond about proprietary DICOM viewers, as Orthanc is focused on the promotion of FOSS for medical imaging. You might find a list of other free viewers at the following address:

Horos is a fantastic choice if you can use Apple hardware.  If you want a web based solution, take a look at the OHIF Viewer:

Orthanc is the primary back end DICOMWeb implementation that OHIF Viewer is developed, tested and deployed with.

Hello,

Gert Wollny  announced a few days ago on debian-med that a new upstream repo for
Ginkgo CADx is available at github (https://github.com/gerddie/ginkgocadx).

Sébastien, it seems that Ginkgo CADx is no longer discontinued.

best regards,

Tried different options (one of those that could run on computers with Ubuntu). The best option turned RadiAnt DICOM Viewer. Doctors endorsed, RadiAnt DICOM Viewer suits them.
