How to Update Your Easybox 904 xDSL to Firmware 307

The Easybox 904 xDSL is a router produced by Arcadyan/Astoria and distributed by Vodafone to their customers. It supports VDSL vectoring, Wi-Fi, analogue telephone line, and has a color LCD screen. The latest firmware version for this device is 04.16, also known as Firmware 307, which was released on October 27, 2020. This firmware update includes bug fixes and stability improvements, and was developed using open source components.

In this article, we will show you how to update your Easybox 904 xDSL to Firmware 307 using two different methods: the hard way and the easy way. The hard way involves installing OpenWrt, a custom firmware based on Linux, on your device and then flashing the original firmware from there. The easy way involves installing a hacked bootloader that allows you to flash the original firmware directly from the web interface. Installing OpenWrt the hard way

OpenWrt is a free and open source firmware for routers that offers many features and customization options. It is compatible with the Easybox 904 xDSL, but it requires some modifications to make it work properly. You can find more information about OpenWrt and the Easybox 904 xDSL on the OpenWrt wiki[^2^]. To install OpenWrt on your device, you will need:

    • A USB-to-serial adapter and a soldering iron
    • A microSD card (at least 4 GB) and a card reader
    • A computer with Linux or Windows
    • A network cable

    The steps to install OpenWrt are as follows:

      • Open the case of your Easybox 904 xDSL by removing the four screws on the bottom and prying off the cover.
      • Locate the serial port on the main board and solder four wires to it: TX, RX, GND, and VCC. Connect these wires to your USB-to-serial adapter according to its pinout.
      • Format your microSD card as FAT32 and copy the OpenWrt image file (openwrt-lantiq-xrx200-easybox_904xdsl-initramfs-kernel.bin) to it.
      • Insert the microSD card into the slot on the main board of your Easybox 904 xDSL.
      • Connect your computer to one of the LAN ports of your Easybox 904 xDSL using a network cable.
      • Connect your USB-to-serial adapter to your computer and open a terminal program (such as PuTTY or minicom) with these settings: baud rate 115200, data bits 8, parity none, stop bits 1, flow control none.
      • Power on your Easybox 904 xDSL and press any key when prompted to enter the bootloader menu.
      • Select option 2 (Boot from SD/MMC) and wait for OpenWrt to load.
      • Login as root with no password.
      • Type "passwd" and set a new password for root.
      • Type "ip link set br-lan up" and press enter.
      • Type "ip route add default via 192.168.1.254" and press enter.
      • Type "opkg update" and press enter.
      • Type "opkg install kmod-mtd-rw" and press enter.
      • Type "insmod mtd-r d8cbe59d7d
