Recently we have had a lot people asking us about the difference between the PCS Thinline symbols and PCS Classic symbols that are available to use with the Boardmaker Software Family. You can read about the new Thinline symbols in a blog I wrote earlier in the year.

Boardmaker Share www.boardmakershare.com is an online community of Boardmaker users who post thousands of Boardmaker activities on hundreds of different topics. You can download your favourites and even find friends who share similar interests.
Symbolworld www.symbolworld.org is a website created by Widgit software specifically for symbol users. It contains material for all ages and includes news, personal contributions, stories and learning materials.
Another great way to add new symbols to your symbol library is by checking the Boardmaker Share website where new symbols are added frequently. Symbols for the 2012 Olympics and other themed topics are there for you to use right now. You can never have too many symbols!
Widgit has created a range of activities that can be opened with a PDF reader. There are activity sheets, flashcards for flags of the countries, vocabulary lists, information materials and much more! They are all symbol supported materials that can be used along side of any other resources you have created.
There is a collection of 28 symbols to provide vocabulary about the 2012 Olympics in London including symbols for yachting, gymnastics, canoeing, diving, swimming, gold, silver, and bronze medals and more.
The best way to do this is to save your board as a PDF (Portable Document Format). This is a common worldwide method that is a reliable and secure way to send documents to people when they might not have a particular software program to view and print the document.
Remember that when you are creating a Boardmaker PDF, it is for sharing with others to view and print that they will not be able to edit and make changes. They will need the Boardmaker software for that.
Once you know that you have PDF writer software on your computer you can follow the steps for either Boardmaker Studio or slightly different steps for Boardmaker, Boardmaker Plus and Boardmaker Speaking Dynamically Pro to create a PDF and share share share!
1. Open the project in Edit mode.
2. Select the Studio File icon (in the top left) then select Print Project.
3. In the top right, change the printer drop-down to read the name of the PDF software on the computer (i.e. PDF Creator, cute PDF, etc).

Remember that you need to be mindful of when you use these types of activities. Similarly to the video choice board, you could use them with long music clips for someone who is having some rest time or with shorter clips that have been edited to last for 10-15 seconds you can use them as a great reward after some hard work!
What an exciting year 2012 was for us!
