Hello Lions,

I would like to thank all the Lions who voted for our new skipper!

Also, thank you for Suresh and Shahnavas for volunteering to do a thankless job as someone will always be upset...there are always armchair captains and the second guessers! But now it's time for the team to come together and rally under our new leader and build on the success we experienced under Noble's leadership!!

We had 20 votes and the tally in the end was in favor for Shahnavas to be the new captain of the Lions, the final count was 12 votes for Shanavas to 8 votes for Suresh.

Again, thank you to all the Lions!

One Lion, One Pride!

Rahul - first of all, thanks for pulling this together.

Secondly, I think the counts close enough to have Shanavas as captain and suresh as the vice-captain.

I'm confident that as they work together - then can bring the best from all !!

Santosh

Congrats Shan .What I feel is that  Lions is kind of stagnant in terms of performance in the field . We have a very talented team but we are not coming together as a powerhouse when we are in the field .
Shan, Please put your utmost efforts in team building and have a consistent 11 who is willing to
Play majority of the matches .
Also try to bring practice sessions back to Lions routine .

Congrats Shahnavas and thanks for the people who nominated and voted for me. In spite of the Lion's rotating captain policy, I am gladly surprised that most in the group have selected Shan, which clearly shows he was a successful captain and he will be in the future for us.

Again.. Congrats Shan and Thank you Rahul.

Rahul thanks for your continuous effort as usual.
Congrats Shan.

The best thing I like in Lions is its transparancy and the right for every individual to express their thought since he pays and plays for himself.

Rahul just a clarification as a team member.
How did we come up with this 12 and 8??
Because as far as I am with LIONS for the last 3 yrs I know these are the players who has
Played under his captaincy:
1)Rahul
2) Noble
3) Ranjith
4) Venkat
5) Anand
6) Santhosh
7) Vinay
or Played as a member.
8) Abi
9) Murali
10) sameer
11) Balaji
12) Arun
13) Ravi
 14) Ali

I am not sure if other players have even seen Shan.
If I am not wrong based on this count there can only be a 14- 0 if no one has voted suresh or 15-0 if suresh has nomited shan himself.

Also it's not fair for people to vote a captain and sit at home for the whole season. A player who atleast show up for 50% has to be counted in for the voting.

If not the case then we have players like Ram, Vijay, Anil, Jerin, Mebin and his brother who has played sometime for Lion who has the right to vote as well.
Just curious to know and learn the magic how people can select a person just by hearing the name?
Thanks Rahul and congrats again shan.

I am not going to go into details as to who voted for whom but we have a large player list and there were folks who DIDN'T vote and had the right to vote...anyone who has been with the Lions the last 2 seasons and in good financial standing was allowed to vote...the others you listed except for Ram are no longer on the team as Lions and play elsewhere!

Here is the list of all the players on our roster over the last 2 seasons and still engaged with the team:

Noble
Renjith
Santosh
Venkat
Arun
Balaji
Sameer
Sudhir
Murali
Dushyant
Dhiren
Vinay
Giri
Rahul
Suresh
Shahnavas
Gaurang
Hiren
Hafeez
Anand
Ravi
Keyur
Meetul
Sam

Just so everyone is clear, this is about the team selecting who they want as their captain and we need to move forward at a UNITED team.

No other team in the league does this! Other teams simply appoint a captain by those deemed "founding or senior members" and it's another thing that differentiates the Lions from the other teams!

Thanks Rahul.

But I dint get an answer for what i asked for?

My question is very simple "a captain has to be selected by the players who is going to play under his captaincy and not by people who has just paid the team and who stays in the email list.."

so its not fair to ask opinion from ppl who is with Lions rather than who is playing for LIONS for that captain.
By selecting like this it's no where different from other teams.

Rahul seeing some kind of animosity a suggestion moving forward...

- All players should meet in person at some place
- Each player is allowed to nominate a player for himself for captain
- Nominated player should be ready for contesting
- Once nominations are in, all should cast there vote in open and you have a captain
- Same procedure for selecting vice-captain

This way you get a chance to have all the members get-together and make them participate if they want to have there say in selecting a captain and vice-captain...

This is what we do at BoomBoom club, so the process is clear and nobody can then have any regrets or anything...

Again, this is not an offensive suggestion, just something to further improve on what Lions as a club stands... For players, by players and complete transparency...

I hope it makes sense...

Everyone on that list is an ACTIVE player and has played in the last 2 seasons and have committed to play in the future under the new captain whether it's full time or less!

There are many exceptions we could have implemented; take Meetul's situation; he has made it clear that he will play in the USACA league, CFCA except when there is no match in that league then he will play for the Lions only in the FCC!  So we could have said, well, we shouldn't allow him to vote since he doesn't play 50% of the matches BUT we didn't!

We could have also looked at it and said, only players who have made it to every match in Tampa would get a vote; well in that case we would have have 7 players vote!

Or we could have said only the original Lions should get to vote...again, that would only allow 6 or 7 players vote or only the full time player who played every match, etc.

The Lions are about inclusion, we want to build something here that will outlast us and be similar to what Sarasota International Cricket Club and Orlando Cricket Club have become!  If you don't know about Sarasota, check them out!

We want everyone who sacrifices their time on weekends and show up to know that we appreciate their effort, time, and input to make this team better on the field and off the field!

Amen. ..

Guys...i am not much active but will share my view as a veteran.

This passion is good.

Decision is now made.

Don't focus on performance only. Captainship is about leading people then personal performance only.

Let's get behind the new leader and give 150 pct.

I wish there was more passion towards catch practice.

You all are with lions because they aren't petty. You all are lion hearted..incredible bunch of folks.

Best of luck and let's kick some butts!!

Meetul,

It makes sense but we have been unsuccessful in getting people together in the past couple of seasons for any type of non-cricketing event! Trust me, I have tried and seen far better involvement via email, point in case 20 out of 24 people voted

Also, transparency is good but there is also a sense of peer pressure and voting anonymously provides people to voice their true opinion. With that said, both processes have their plus's and minus's

@ Rahul... since you brought this up about equality in the team. I demand transparency as one of the person being nominated for the position. As we are rotating our captain every season, this position for the captain is only for the coming season and people who will play atleast 50% of matched should elect.

I definitely don't mind if the team doesn't choose me but I am worried if the so called 'decision' is made only by a couple of people for raising my voice and sharing my inputs about the poor captaincy in the crucial playoff match . Again the decision should be made only by the people who are going to play. If out of the playing 11, even if 6 of them feel that the captain cannot deliver, then we are not going to see any team work out there. That is the reason why I am stressing out the point that people who are playing should be responsible for picking up their captain. This helps to build a trust is build at the very step there.

As a playing and paying member of the team, I have the right to question this decision.

Also, it is not ANONYMOUS when you get to know, who has voted for whom. I would say that is where peer pressure is.

At last...  If you say that being a "founding or senior members" we decide that the decision is made, then please stop advertising that we take input from all and your favorite quote ONE LION ONE PRIDE.

Hi Rahul I am least worried about who the captain is. All the time i am writing this email is for bringing in some basic commitments.(with some personal exceptions)

Let ppll be committed to the team atleast 50% and then suggest something for the team

Also Meetul is a different case please dont compare him with anyother member who never plays or plays at times. He plays and plays all the time.

I accept Lions is all about inclusion but thats what makes us the weakest team with 25 ppl on the roaster of which 10 is a good emailist and 10 comes when bored and remaining 5 will be always be on ground.

I am making this point on behalf of you Rahul so that ppl will be committed in the coming season and you don need to run behind ppl for each and every match.

@ Gaurang  off all as you said "decision is made now" correction "decision was made long back" and why this drama..

With this new leader we have to give 150% i do accept of which only 30% has happened in the past and this can happen in the future one and only if ppl be on the ground physically.

OK, you guys are getting out of control with these emails, there will not be any changes to who gets to vote for the captain as it's ALWAYS been done this way!

If anything, I would personally say only those who played 100% of the matches should get to vote or stand to be captain...you know those FEW guys who are there day in and day out, regardless of where the match is being played but it's not the way the Lions do things!

Also, the decision was made by a VOTE!!!  Stop with the conspiracy theories and statements.  By doing so, you are looking like disgruntled children.  Also, the insinuation that the outcome was a fore gone conclusion is an personal attack on my integrity which I don't appreciate nor will I be civil if it continues!

This is the last time I will say it, NO ONE PERSON or NO SELECT FEW decided the outcome; there were 20 votes submitted, 12 for Shahnavas and 8 for Suresh, THE END.

Please remember, we are all on the Lions because we want to be on the Lions, no one is forced or required to be on the team so if you are not planning on supporting Shahnavas a 100% for the next year, then I suggest you look for a new team to call home...

There it goes the REAL ATTITUDE.
Who are you to say that Rahul ? You dont own this team. Every player who pays has the right to question anybody. If it is only you do all the talking, then there is no team. Even now I respect your dedication and commitment. Since you had the opportunity to handle the team's finances that does not give you the right to ask me and others to leave the team.

If you can address my concerns in the right way and get this thing sorted out, then please. Otherwise just let other team members to talk.

Guys - enough !! I get it - emotions are high and I love the passion, but looks like it is getting to a point where things are turning or will turn personal very soon.

Suresh - I think it's awesome to be getting 8 out of 20. People are seeing what u r made up off and appreciate your effort and it's a matter of a season or two till u move another 8 votes ur way to be at 16 !!

Rahul had asked for opinions when he offered the voting option and setting criteria on who can be the candidate and who can vote would have gone a log way then. I get ur concerns - but too late Suresh.

Biased, unbiased, influenced or by their own choice ! Ppl have voted !!

Let's focus on the next chapter - beating our season best of 4 wins in a regular season and winning a playoff match!!!

Santosh

First off, I have no issues with questions that are with merit and not led in with ridiculous comments and statements like the "decision was already made". Yes, you are correct that anybody can question anyone on this team as I don't own it, but the current method of questioning is out of hand!

Second, I asked no one to leave the team and simply stated that if you are not willing to support Shahnavas then that person(people) by default become detrimental to the well being of the team and ultimately a cancer so it's best that those who can not support Shahanvas to find a team where they can respect and back the captain!

Also, the only REAL ATTITUDE I have are at the insinuations that this was a mockery of a vote by default questioning my integrity which I will not stand for from anyone!

I have answered all of yours, Venkat's, Meetul's, and anyone else's questions and comments with great respect and detail previously and below:

Everybody who has played for the team and paid their dues over the last 2 seasons got to vote

The voting criteria is not going to change to any iteration based on percentage of matches played or level of recent participation

I will not share who voted for whom as I don't want campaigning to take place one way or the other; where disgruntled folks recruit players to start a new team or turn people against each other...this email string has already accomplished that to a certain degree!

If you are that intrigued on finding out who voted for whom, I recommend you reach out to each member I outlined in my earlier communication individually as I will leave up to the each individual to share with you if you so choose to do so!

Finally, other team members are more than welcome to chime in and comment, I have not put a gag order on anyone but be careful what you wish for...it may be a Pandora's box you may be opening...

Hi Lions,

I was a part of Lions only for 1 season probably played 5 games, so i did not casted my vote.
But to be very honest I miss the lions not as a team but as a group of wonderful people who played in team.

Please do not go in to this kind of criticism on appointment over caption, this is just a position. Caption can't win you a game its a team who plays together to win it. So get behind the new caption who was previously a lion. This kind of emails will demotivate everyone which no one will want.

Rahul has always worked hard to make this team as one family and this is not a easy job considering our personal responsibilities such as job and family.

Personally I never played with Shan and played few games with Suresh, so I can't judge them with such less experience.

As Santosh said, get up and practice hard which is our worst enemy, as only talent won't win us a game its practice with Talent will take you further.

So plan your practice sessions before the next seasons game, make a group of people such as Bowler's pool, Batsman's pool and do practice accordingly.

Sorry If I hurt anyone's sentiments.

This is going more personal which is definitely not good for the team. may be we should end this conversation here and look forward to move as a team united.

Team,

I have been catching up on this thread.  Some of the comments in this thread are very personal. This is not how we are.  We survive together as a family.  All of us try to find time from our busy schedule to do some gossiping, get some exercise/workout, drop a lot of catches, pull each others legs etc. Remember this is not our profession.  We are here just for fun and enjoyment.  Let us not spoil the spirit and keep ourselves intact as a close knit family and well oiled unit.

I am waiting for the next Sunday of fun.  Hope to see you all there.

Waited for the dust to settle down a little bit..

My few cents..

Just for the record, in my opinion, the voting process was well organised and fair and we all had a chance to voice any concerns that we had prior to the voting.

Can't help saying this, but a captain is only as good as his team. So we must all strive to work with Shanavas, be committed and try to go past the quarterfinals for the first time.
