Conduct for new group

Starting this one so that discussion goes on here...

1. I have severe paucity of time n expect this to continue till next weekend.(official reasons -- quarter end.)

2. My net has become crappy temporarily, so cant upload or use orkut much...even sometimes I open gmail as basic html.

3. Before sleeping tonight, i will create a list of the new members regarding who does what. Bas usko copy paste karna aur orkut pe chipka dena.. Aur pyaar se samjha dena ki kal se kaam shuru, I think we have got 8-9 people. Just for allocation sake, allocate very small topics to us. As we will do more of "organising and digging" work.

This is my view which i am reiterating for the hundredth time.

Newspaper has two sections.

(A) daily tit bits.

(B) Big articles which require comprehensive analysis.

Now,Section A can be posted in the appropriate heading i.e National, International etc. This can be allocated to 2 people per week.

For Section B, we can have the current system, where each of us has a section and complies the article. For this to be done, we have to have a common page having the index of all the articles, like the one i have in my page, check that out. Here everyone will post the name of the articles etc. they have done in their section, thus preventing repetition. Also, names of articles you want to be covered but cannot do yourself can be posted here which can be picked up by others.

Read this and comment.

As of now, keep the current work going till there is an overlap between the work of both groups. Then we can leave our current work and take up the new task.

Here is my opinion of allocation(anybody has issues, point it..this is just tentative, I am not stamping anything on anyone :-) ):

1. Gambit - Management n Organisation (arre arre akhbaar ka naam nahi hai ... :-)  )

2. Marv - Deccan Herald (editorials + SnT)

3. Game - Economic Times (only relevant economic editorials n small stuff if not in Hindu)

4. Abhijeet - Business Standard (same as Game, mind here only economic and social news news, not business news. like stock market,acqusition etc. )

5. Maverick - TOI editorials + SnT (n assist Gambit if he needs....lolzzz)

6. Jason - HT editorals + SnT

7. Munna bhai -- IE (editorials + SnT)

8. Sherlock -- PIB

9. Kuldeep singh -- PRS

10. Vijay -- Hindu Business and Economy

11. Rahul Sharma --  IDSA+IPCS

Note: the work has been deliberately kept a little less so that u guys dont go lethargic n start compromising quality or missing news items.

Comments--

What i expect from you people is -- since u also will be reading newspapers and I have allocated somethings which we were doing earlier, u guys can keep a check on their quality. Like Maverick can check PIB etc..

Yaar ye sabne Hindu Hindu kar dia...it aint possible for all to get Hindu. I dont know who all among these Hindus(pun intended)...are accomodating in nature.

There will be 2 type of people..

1. its ok..whatever I got I will do..anyways I am getting all Hindu properly done by the team and getting best gist.

2. Holy shit!!! these people are autocratic..Why they gave Hindu to XYZ and me this bullshit TOI editorials.

What I feel is ... nishaana thik lagna chahiye... nahi to doosri category 2-4 days mein move out kar jaegi.(though I have tried to do justice to everyone.)

@Game+@Abhijeet - if u dont read hindu then u can go one day late than the group to see what they posted.

@anyone -- modify the bold part if u want before pasting on community ..may be therez no need for we 6 to display our names. The complete list can be put in new google group for them to see complete picture of who is doing what.

Also, what I feel is..most of new members are under-employed(if I can use that term)..will see what more sources we can accomodate depending on how many ppl sustain n whats their quality.

@Gambit -- forgot to mention about ur comments.

I agree with section B, but regarding Section A .. is it like u r saying 2 people will collect all minor stuff from all sources or is it like 2 people collect national from everywhere , 2 ppl collect economy from everywhere..

Either case, please consider my suggestion -- whosover is doing his/her allocated source if he/she feels something qualifies for section A then they themselves go n post it at relevant place. And if it qualifies for section B, then they make a note of it in their analysis table(which,as you said,can be done by them or someone else.)

At the end of the day, whether the news is big issue or itsy bitsy thing should be a tough call to take... anyways if something goes into Section A and u or i or anyone for that matter thinks that hey!!! we need to know more about this...we can make an entry in our table.

Well, my day has just begun.

Yes, i agree with you that it might be tough to take a call on which section it belongs. I think it might be easier if i put it like this.

Section A, daily news.

Section B, mains perspective.

Section B can be left to the 6 of us for now, and others gradually inducted. This can be done in the regular "section" tabs in onenote.( harty's den, gambit's section etc.)

For section B, what i meant was 2 people will be allotted each week the work of copy pasting all the material generated under the relevant headings. But 2 seems a bit small. I guess each of us can responsible for the material of 1-2 new recruits, pasting them in the relevant sections and giving them headings instead of 19 dec etc.

Now you have added few more sources,which in my idea is adding too  much and is never reqd...what at present we are doing is more than enough.....I now feel tht frontline can also be left out ...

at present we are doing: hindu . express, et, business standard, pib,...these sources are more than sufficient.expecting all ll be doing yoj and kuruk along with it.,as reading more newspapers are not going to bring in a great change., notes making aint the end but scoring marks is...So i am very much complacent about the sources we are doing,so no need of toi,ht etc......sorry for tht...

we have few more people ,let them take up whatever they want,i ll create a google group,let them submit thr,its only to check if they are regular,and if they are, they it ll b here in this group in a week and then keep contributing as usual.

Gambit  on the big issues comes from tit bits,let tit bits be thr,u edit it and put the base or the whole picture along with the tit bits.....the search in onenote is so effective as we can search every  word in whole note,so finding relevant news and copying them to one place wont be a big task.....

i'm reminded of the tussle between PDS and cash transfer system. someone prefers the former, others the latter. similar is the situation here. :p

let's not overhaul our current system of note making and storing, till the new system (along with new entrants) is established. we 6 are going to continue what we are doing. assign the new ones their parts and monitor this for a week long trial period. see how many are regular, quality of posts etc. then we'll take the next step.

segregating (compilation) work does not take long. let's not waste our time on arranging notes. but on gaining insight and preparing good quality notes

1) Stick to few sources.

2) Individual section/den may be there. But someone needs to put the relevant news in relevant section under national, polity, etc so everything is avlbl under one roof.

3) Compilation/ segregation of notes is very important as we can't revise everything from so many place. No information overload please !

@Maverick -- what I fear is such an announcement will make them work. And we might end up getting even those who did the work just for this membership. Too many  have joined google group, and the pity is none is doing anything(some good ones are obviously thinking that work is yet to begin.)

One of the problem with the new group is that most of them are new and doesn't understand what to cover and what not to. For eg. Devesh mailed me the list of news items he considered worth covering. There were 23 of them only from national + SnT. I think others are also not posting due to same reason.

1. Kuldeep, Bharat n daya might know each other and allowing one might mean allowing other two..m ok with first 2 but Daya needs to understand  ki Frontline nai chipkaani hoti. 

2. Devesh should be promoted.

3. Rahul also seems likely.

4. Shivam dubey -- well he had a few problems.. but i have explained him personally how to go about things. we need more time to see what he can do.

I dont want this to drag too long..by Friday we shall upgrade and remove the rest.

udhar ka idhar to ho gaya pura google drive folder share kia hai.. I had asked the moderator for that but he insisted for only one or two friends. Please don't share the folder to other guys. Last year they had some quarrel with pawan sir for the 2nd arc summaries which he destributed to his students claiming he prepared the summaries.

HI fellas,

@jason:pls do one thing u must have installed a google drive folder in ur system ,now open google drive via browser and in files shared with me ,u ll see all the folders which has been shared with u till now,like abhijeet :wiki ias,marvs : gktoday...now select them and drag them to "My drive",which u ll see in the google drive websit oly..,by this what haapens is  all file ll b downloaded to ur drive and u can access it through google drive folder in us system..after then u edit or u delete.

for gyan point abhijeet today provided editable pdfs,so just select  content u want to revise and copy them to a word doc for further reference.....

The onenote is shared  oly within us,and even if someone is going to use it to be share its content  in wikiias or somewhere else I think we shouldn't worry...we are here to crack a exam and not doing research ,so to keep contents in secrecy is not an issue...we have benefited through ppl like abhijeet,marv who are sharing contents from their own sources ,and oly this generousness will help,so let anyone share and do whatever..and until we are benefited everything is fine....

@all -- I believe the trial is almost over... will go ahead with the 7 names ...(Dubey and Daya included)... announcing as wont get much time this weekend(packing +shifting)...whenever I find tomorrow night or Saturday.. i will remove the rest it will be only 14 of us (old 7  + new 7).. from there anyone of u can take over to explain the things about one note to them and also allocate the sections...

My personal wish -- Dont allocate any section to me. And to atleast two other people. I really would like to go back to my original purpose, value addition and exploring wherever I find scope(the desire of wanting more)..and wont be restricted by section. 2 people will be needed for segregation and tracking purpose..

Please voice ur opinions.

Suggestion Hindu - 3ppl...IE - 2, PIB - 1, ET - 1 (bits n facts also to be collected)... rest u ppl think of what to do..Yojana,Frontline,EPW,ministry website etc.. we have ppl for that.

Agar kaho to kaam dekh ke ye bhi suggest kar dun ki who will do what..but its better they themselves choose.

talk about one note only after u hav removed the rest. Instead of creating individual section/den we can hav only combined headings national/economy, etc. reallocation of task need to be done like few people to cover daily newspaper and few of them to cover an issue and few for value addition segregation so that things become more readable and revisable.

ya individual sections are not needed i feel, just a system to track whether person posted or not has to be there..may be a table where entry is made by the person thats it.
