Hello all,
There is a definite need for the zero-width nonjoiner 'character' in
all Oriya Unicode fonts. This entity is required for keeping the
halants explicit within any word. As of now the presence of halant
would forcibly join the the adjacent characters. In older fonts (8bit)
there used to be a link character which used to achieve this. In the
8bit GIST fonts entering the halant twice would keep the halant
explicit.
Can the font/rendering experts provide a solution? Till the character
is included, can we have any work around?

If you are using free OT fonts and KB drivers provided by Govt. of
India

<http://ildc.in/Oriya/download/C-DAC/GIST-OT-FONTS-INSTALLER.zip>
and
<http://ildc.in/Oriya/download/C-DAC/GIST-OT-TypingTool.zip>

ZWNJ auto added by typing halant twice (for explicit halant):

for example.

ଉଦ୍‌ବୋଧନ ହୃଦ୍‌ବୋଧ ଉଦ୍‌ଗମ ଚନ୍‌ଦ୍ର

The double halant does not work in all programs. It works in word pad
but not in Access 2003. There are still other problems in Word 2003.
Let us try to do some comprehensive testing of the GIST OT fonts. Our
primary need now is to develop databases in Access and format these
for printing in Word or Publisher. Unfortunately, PageMaker is not
Unicode compliant and InDesign does not support Indic languages.
